    Goldman Sachs' Schatten reicht über Wallstreet raus


    Ohne Goldman Sachs geht nichts mehr: Die Investmentbank kontrolliert mehr und mehr Schalthebel der Macht.


    ...... Goldman Sachs ist indessen nicht nur ein erfolgreiches Investmenthaus. Die 1869 von deutschen Einwanderern gegründete Bank ist auch eine führende Karriereschmiede des Landes, wie eine Liste der Ex-Partner in Toppositionen zeigt: Hank Paulson ist Chef des Finanzministeriums, Robert Zoellick führt die Weltbank, Mario Draghi steht der italienischen Notenbank vor, Mark Carney ist Chef der kanadischen Notenbank, Joshua Bolten leitet den Stab des US-Präsidenten, Jon Corzine ist Gouverneur des Staates New Jersey, Robert Rubin ist Vordenker bei der Citigroup und war Finanzminister unter Bill Clinton, John Thain ist soeben zum Sanierer der Merrill Lynch ernannt worden und Duncan Niederauer leitet nun die NYSE Euronext. Diese Machtballung ist kein Zufall; Hank Paulson ist einer ihrer wichtigsten Architekten. Paulson übernahm im Sommer 2006 das US-Finanzministerium und füllte damit ein Machtvakuum in der Regierung Bush. Der US-Handelsbeauftragte verdankt seinen Aufstieg an die Spitze der Weltbank der Paulson-Connection; auch sorgte Paulson dafür, dass der wichtige Posten des Chefhändlers der US-Notenbank mit einem Goldman Sachs-Mann besetzt wurde.
    An der New Yorker Börse, so Gasparino, kam es zu einer eigentlichen Machtübernahme durch die Bank. In einem von Interessenkonflikten durchsetzten Coup gelang es Goldman Sachs, die von ihr kontrollierte elektronische Handelsplattform Archipelago bei der NYSE unterzubringen und damit die Parketthändler auszubooten. Die NYSE Euronext sei heute «eine Goldman Sachs-Börse», sagt Gasparino. Dass die Bank einen unfairen Wettbewerbsvorteil erlangt hat, weil sie Einblick in offene Handelpositionen hat, bestreitet John Thain. «Nein, überhaupt nicht«, sagte er dazu kürzlich, «nur ist unser Anteil etwas grösser». Dass die Bank zuvor sowohl die Börse wie Archipelago bei der Fusion vertreten hatte, wurde mit einem Schulterzucken registriert. «Typisch Goldman Sachs», so ein gängiger Ausdruck an der Wallstreet, der die Mischung von Bewunderung, Neid und Misstrauen der Konkurrenz beschreibt.....

    ...wenn ich denke - meine Tochter hatte damals ihre Vrenelis für 100Fr. verkloppt und gegen Ziaretten "getauscht" X(
    vielleicht sollte man sich auch einige Stangen zwecks Tauschgeschäfte zulegen :rolleyes:

    Redburn Partners vindicates GATA in 'Gold War' report

    Paul Mylchreest, author of the January 2006 report on gold for the Cheuvreux brokerage house of Credit Agricole (http://www.gata.org/node/4270), has updated his research in his new position as an analyst at Redburn Partners in London. Mylchreest's new report, titled "Gold War," cites at length and concurs with GATA's work about central bank intervention against gold and declares that the biggest credit bubble in history will "either be purged in a deflationary recession or inflated away in currency debasement," with gold winning either way.

    Gammon downgraded and target slashed

    Grim reading in Gammon Gold’s quarterly results prompted Canaccord Adams to downgrade the stock to “sell” from “hold” and sink the price target to $5.85 from $9.60.
    Operations are “eating through cash even at $800 (U.S.) an ounce gold,” writes analyst Wendell Zerb, who claims the company “even underperformed [his] conservative forecast” of production on higher costs.
    The stock has crumbled 8.3 per cent to $7.58 on the TSX Tuesday afternoon, after sinking to a 52-week low of $7 earlier in the session.
    While Mr. Zerb contends Gammon’s operations “will continue to underperform for several quarters,” Scotia Capital figures the third quarter “should be the low point in terms of output and costs [and] that continuous improvement over the coming months could indicate a buying opportunity.”

    In the week ending 26th October 2007, the decrease of €126 million in gold and gold receivables reflected sales of gold by two Eurosystem central banks (consistent with the Central Bank Gold Agreement of 27th September 2004) of 7.25 tonnes approximately.


    What looks to be persistently high gold sales by the signatories of the Central Bank gold Agreement in the first month of the fourth year of the five year agreement, we contemplate what lies ahead for the agreement and the sales from there. It would seem that the Swiss are the larger of the two sellers, with either the French or the European Central bank as the other seller. If the past is indicative of the present, the Swiss will continue selling at this pace until they have completed their sales in the first quarter of next year. Each week of these high sales gives us more certainty on that. A look at the Table above paints a dramatic picture of the sales going forward into the new year....


    ....We conclude that there will probably be no new announcements by Central Banks to sell gold, rather those who could buy gold will overtake those selling gold?
