Degussa Silberbarren

@derkolibri , don't you mean 5 tola? Size 1 inch by 1 inch, 0.22 thick, would not be illogical. Fineness 996: Produced 1940 -1950?? Maybe someone can tell a bit more about this? Greetings. crow
I am very interested in investigating this as well. I am sorry if I am not responding to the correct comment, as I am still learning how to use this forum. It seems to me that the 5 tola JM/Rothschild and the 10 tola JM/Rothschild "fingerbarren" were produced at the same facility, along with both rare 5oz gold examples. Could Johnson Matthey have been producing ingots for Rothschild, or the other way around? I've had one collector tell me that JM produced pieces for Rothschild, but no actual info or confirmation yet.
Also, time period. It also seems to me that these early tola bars are roughly 1950's, and possibly earlier. Compare the weight designation (along with the floating decimal) format on this 1oz pressed Johnson Matthey London piece to the 1954 Rothschild Morocco gold 500 Dirham piece:

I am hoping to get thoughts on the relationship between Johnson Matthey and Rothschild during this time period, and possibly how early this relationship started. Thank everyone for their help! -

It is the same I found in 2017.
In 2017 I also look at the adress 31 Rue van Artevelde. I had the impression that some kind of dental depot was
housing there. Selling consumabel materials to dentists.
Wenn I found the government aproval there was anouther one from 1997 about an aproval for an dental X- ray , 60KV.
I wil look again. It is a dentist or an dental depot, also selling X- rays.Greetings Crow
Great information. Thank you, Mr. Crow

Good idea Samson
Found something else:So Rey had received official approval for his operations from 1945 to 2004.
My french is not so good but if I understand it correctly he has registered different devices:
air compressor
Two electric motors
Machine to pull wire
Furnace for alloying metalsHe made alloys for dental labs/dentists.
And because of the wire drawing machine, semi-finished products for jewelers and fine smiths. He must also have been an essayeur because there are gold and silver bars with his dots.
Most likely he also bought pure gold and used it to make smaller bullion bars.
All cast bars because he had small stamping machines.Greetings Crow
This is amazing! Thank you very much. I have found that the old address in Brussels is now (or still) a dental clinic. I also found an advertisement in a 1947 Foreign Commerce Weekly.

@ G.Brand
Alles anzeigenAs an addition from Crow (see post #1621):
Called rare bullion yesterday, he is 100% sure YES Rey is coming
from Belgium. Couldn't find certificate, address should be on it
was standing. So that was something. Just kept looking and I
found the following:In : "Foreign Commerce Weekly" of 23 August 1947
New World Trade Leads
BelgiumComptoir des Métaux Précieux de Belgique JA Rey & Co
31 Rue Van Artevelde, Brussels
Seeks purchase quotations and agency for dental alloys (gold, platinum, palladium).
---
and further in post #1625:I think Rey made the first bars in the early or mid 50's because there's 999.8 and 999.9. Only Turkish manufacturers did not produce 999.9 in the nineties.
---
In the past there were many smaller manufacturers such as jewelry manufacturers, jewellers, dentists, dental laboratories etc. and today, 70 years later, documentation is hardly possible. An example is JA Rey, Antwerp (apparently a dentist), he is such a small bar maker.I don't have any more information.
best regards
castingThat is very interesting information, thank you. I've been working on this set for quite a while. It appears that JA Rey & Co. was supplying the dental industry?

I've been working on bringing these two together. I hope to find out more about them as I like them! I understand that little information is available and have checked the old posts.
