    March 3 (Bloomberg) --


    South Africa's rand fell, the biggest fluctuation of any currency today,


    amid concern power shortages in the country may hurt Africa's biggest


    economy and its exports.



    Cape Town, the nation's second largest city, has suffered blackouts the


    last two weeks, causing some businesses to halt production.


    Manufacturing shrunk for a second month in February, a survey showed


    yesterday. The rand has fallen this week versus all 16 major currencies


    tracked by Bloomberg on concern declining exports will rob the country of foreign exchange.




    ``We've got a big manufacturing sector down here and the power cuts


    are eroding the competitiveness of our exports further,'' said Natheem


    Alexander, part of a team that manages about $8 billion at Cape Town-


    based Abvest Associates Ltd. ``This could be a factor for the rand.''



    Against the dollar, the rand fell 1.2 percent to 6.20 by 6 p.m. in


    Johannesburg. The currency has declined 1.4 percent since late on Feb.


    24, extending its drop in the past two weeks to 2.8 percent.

    SEMAFO DELIVERS RECORD GOLD PRODUCTION IN 2005
    ===============================================


    Semafo Inc. has released its 2005 gold production figures and is providing an outlook for the future.


    Gold production in 2005


    Semafo's total gold production for the year amounted to a record 158,000


    ounces, an increase in excess of 150 per cent over 2004. This increase


    can be substantially attributed to Samira Hill's 12-month contribution in


    2005 compared with three months in the year prior.


    Kiniero mine


    At Kiniero in 2005, the plant processed about 617,000 tonnes of ore at


    an average grade of 3.28 grams per tonne, leading to a gold production


    of 61,500 ounces, compared with the revised target of 65,000 ounces. In


    the last quarter of the year, lower productivity from mine operations


    combined with the higher quantity of waste material from new pits


    resulted in the processing of lower-grade ore.


    Samira Hill mine


    In 2005, the Samira Hill mine produced 96,500 ounces of gold, slightly


    short of its 100,000-ounce target, processing of more than 1.37 million


    tonnes of ore at an average grade of 2.41 grams per tonne.

    Auf Rapu Rapu hat man an LAFAYETTE LAF.ASX verpachtet gegen Smelter Royalty.


    Weil mein Bestand an TVI nur gering ist und die schon gut gelaufen sind,

    hatte ich LAF hinzugekauft.

    LAF ist noch billig, weil in Rapu Rapu die Katholischen Priester


    noch eine Teufelsaustreibung zelebrieren. Bald wird der Hl. Geist dort wieder

    einkehren.

    Da wurden gestern weitere hervorragende Explorationsergebnisse

    veröffentlicht. Das für mich Neue ausser Gold "high grades"

    berichtet man ueber Beimetall Arsen As. War mir nur als

    extremes Gift bekannt. Wird aber anscheinend als

    Pflanzenschutzmittel und in Semiconductors eingesetzt.

    HIGH RIVER GOLD REPORTS 2005 PRODUCTION RESULTS AND 2006 GUIDANCE


    High River Gold Mines Ltd. has released its production results for 2005


    and forecast for 2006. The company's gold production remains unhedged.




    Consolidated production results


    High River, through its Russian subsidiary (owned 85 per cent), OJSC


    Buryatzoloto, operates two underground gold mines, Zun-Holba and


    Irokinda, located in the Republic of Buryatia in southern Siberia, Russia.


    For 2005, Buryatzoloto produced a record 157,910 ounces of gold,


    exceeding its budget target by 7 per cent, with an estimated total cash


    cost (excluding the placer operation) of approximately $280 (U.S.) per


    ounce. Operating costs were impacted by expanded stope development


    at both mines, higher general expenses and inflation.



    The company's share of gold production for 2005 reached a record


    134,223 ounces, a 25-per-cent increase over its 2004 gold production of


    107,644 ounces. The increase is the result of High River increasing its


    equity interest in Buryatzoloto from 54.1 per cent to 85 per cent, despite


    closure of the New Britannia mine.
