CDE gibt auf, das Spiel ist vorbei. Freut mich sehr.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp (CDE.N: Quote, Profile, Research) admitted defeat on Tuesday in its $1.8 billion bid to acquire Canadian gold and silver miner Wheaton River Minerals Ltd. (WRM.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) Coeur, the world's biggest primary producer of silver, said it will let its tender offer for Vancouver-headquartered Wheaton River expire as scheduled on Sept. 30, and does not expect to meet the condition it set of getting at least 66 2/3 percent of Wheaton's shares.
"Further increasing the consideration payable under the present offer terms would not be in the best interest of our Coeur shareholders," Chief Executive Dennis Wheeler said in a written statement.
Wheaton River Chief Executive Ian Telfer expressed satisfaction with the failure of the unsolicited offer, which had derailed Wheaton's own plan this year to merge with fellow Canadian minder Iamgold Corp. (IMG.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) .
"I am certainly not surprised. The indication from our shareholders were that they were not interested in Coeur paper." Telfer said. "I am thrilled for our shareholders... we can get back to business now."
Wheeler said Idaho-based Coeur "will continue with its plans to grow shareholder value," and expects to make decisions on whether to pursue construction at two gold mines by the end of the year."
Coeur, which launched its unsolicited offer in May, canceled a shareholders' meeting scheduled for Sept. 30.
The Coeur bid was part of an unusual corporate tag-team battle over the summer that saw it trying to buy Wheaton, while Colorado-based Golden Star Resources (GSS.A: Quote, Profile, Research) attempted to buy Wheaton's planned partner IamGold.
Golden Star's bid also failed when IamGold agreed to be taken over by South Africa's Gold Fields Ltd. (GFIJ.J: Quote, Profile, Research) .
