    Le Metropole Members,

Eric Hommelberg has served commentary at The Hemingway
Table titled, "Selling Juniors? - You Must Be Kidding!"

"It sure has been a quite a week for gold and HUI.. Both
seemed to be plunging into a deep black hole thereby
scaring the hell out of many gold investors . Sure
enough many inquiries came my way again from readers
asking it's time to sell since so many analysts turned
    bearish lately."

Bin gespannt was du davon haeltst und berichtest.

    Thank you

    Gruss

In paragraph six of the last Commentary, the US dollar should fall by about 35% for the gold price to rise from $600 an ounce to $900 an ounce, not 50%. I apologize to the error and it serves me right for writing the letter so late at night. 35% is also at the low end of the OECD's range of how much the US dollar has to devalue to balance the US trade deficit.

    All the best,
    Paul van Eeden

Hallo, mal was anderes was durchaus zutreffen kann.

    Gruss

    ;)Lucky, thanx 4 the info..

Kanns verstehen, man verschiesst viel Blei in Irak. :D :(

Bye for now...back to Bob Pisani live form NYSE and Mr. Rick Santelli from the T-Bond Pit. :D

    XEX

    Hi Linar

    Have a nice day

Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase and Citigroup engineered the last attack on gold, which took it down some $200. During that caper the US Treasury dumped 500 tons of gold on the market in the high $600s. This time it’s shorts and derivatives and perhaps some bullion selling. We’ll find out in due time. We will say this time there is a full court press to convince the world that commodities and gold and silver have topped out and lower inflation is on the way. This, of course, is ludicrous. The US is slowing down and in time that will affect every other nation, but not for a minimum of six to nine months and then we’ll have lag time. Rest assured hard assets have a long way to go. The media is controlled by the same people who control Wall Street, banking, corporate America and our government. They will always be using the media to propagandize America. You just can’t let them fool you. You cannot let them shake you out of your gold and silver positions. Nothing has changed except the direction of the elitists’ psychological warfare. They want to confuse you and destroy you because you are the antithesis of everything they represent...

    ....diese Leute haben endlos Geld.(confetti)

Gold's bull market is far from over. In fact it has barely begun. The fact that each correction is immediately interpreted as being the bursting of a bubble, with precipitous declines looming on the horizon, actually supports this view. Genuine bull markets, especially those that take on bubble like proportions, seldom fail to make record highs. In the case of gold and silver, neither has achieved such milestones. When prices are adjusted for inflation, they haven't even come close. Believe me, by the time this bull market really ends, those highs will be distant memories.

Remember, this metals bull market has its roots in a looming global currency crisis, as the dollar, and those other fiat currencies backed by dollar reserves, are increasingly shunned by enlightened savers. As they re-discover gold as an alternative, its appeal, and therefore its price, will ultimately surge. The global economic imbalances are stretching to a breaking point. The dollar's role as the world's reserve currency, and the borrow and spend U.S. economy it supports, teeter in the balance.

This may well be one of the last great buying opportunities of this leg of the bull market. Do not let it pass you buy. If ever there was a gift horse, this is it. Rather than staring dumfounded into its mouth, simply reach into your pocket and grab your last remaining greenbacks and buy all the gold and silver you can get your hands on. ;)

I could freak out so hoch sind die ..

Viva Mexico !

    Oil and XOI Corrections
    Adam Hamilton, CPA
    September 15th, 2006

Some of the things I heard on CNBC this week were amazing, reflecting absolutely horrendous commodities sentiment. I lost count of the number of analysts who claimed that the “commodities bubble” is over and we are entering the bust phase. One gentleman who was interviewed compared the commodities stocks earlier this year to the NASDAQ mania in March 2000, implying commodities stocks are going to plunge.

A prominent CNBC host repeatedly made the assertion that this commodities bull was sparked by the September 11th terrorist attacks. Another fellow said that since the CRB Index broke its uptrend, the commodities bull has officially ended. These assertions are just plain silly, of course, but the mere fact they were airing en masse reflects just how damaged commodities sentiment has become due to the recent sharp corrections. They are easy to refute.

This oil bull exists because world oil demand is growing faster than world oil supplies, and oil’s moderate and long-term secular uptrend reflects this. As Asia and the rest of the world aspire to Western standards of living, per-capita oil consumption is relentlessly rising worldwide. This is putting tremendous strain on existing oil capacity. Since it takes so long to find and produce oil, it will probably take another decade or more to rectify this core fundamental imbalance.

As expected, more talk of a slowing US economy caused base metals prices to continue their decline this week and, as expected, falling base metals prices dragged the gold price down as well. Very few institutional investors differentiate between gold and other metals; they bought them all as a hedge against a weaker US dollar, so when they finally wrapped their heads around the fact that the US economy can slow down and that a slowing economy will cause a decline in base metals demand, they started selling their metals -- including gold. :(

On Monday, Cathy Minehan, the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, commented on the risks that the slowing housing market could pose to the US economy. She was speaking at a meeting of the National Association for Business Economics and a survey of the Association’s economists revealed that they, too, expected the US economy to post below-trend growth for the rest of this year and into 2007.

The Bank of Japan also kept its interest rates unchanged without giving away any clues as to when, or if, it might raise interest rates again. There is some speculation that weakness in the Japanese economy could deter the BOJ from raising interest rates in the near future and this dampened enthusiasm for base metals further.

Most investors (both individual and institutional) are reactionary, and when they read about negative sentiments such as these they react by giving sell orders to their brokers, which is precisely what happened this week. :(

US money supply (as measured by my own estimate of M3) increased by 8.4% over the past twelve months. Current gold inflation, which is mine supply as a percentage of all above-ground gold (all the gold that has been mined to date), is around 1.6% per annum. That is why the gold price continues to rise against the US dollar over time – it is as simple as that. In the short term, however, exchange rates and investor sentiment also have to be brought into account and it is mostly they that cause short-term volatility. But in the long-term, the gold price in any currency will rise by an amount equal to the difference between its inflation rate and the inflation rate of the currency you price it with.

My model of the gold price (based on the inflation rates of gold and the US dollar) puts the gold price at around $900 an ounce with the difference between the current gold price and $900 being accounted for by an over-priced US dollar. For gold to rise from $600 an ounce to $900 an ounce requires the dollar to fall, on average, by 50%. 8o ?(

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) said earlier this year that the dollar had to fall by 35% to 50% in order to balance the US current account gap. I don't know how they came up with those figures, but they correspond very well to my own expectation of how much the dollar should decline.

If the gold price is going to rise to $900 an ounce then gold at under $600 an ounce is starting to look attractive again. :D
But there is still downside risk in base metals and until the gold price uncouples from base metals prices I would not get too aggressive on the buy side.

But gold will decouple, because unlike base metals, its value (and long-term price) is not dependent on economic growth.
