Manipulation Of US Financial Markets Intensifying

During my presentation to the attendees at the Calgary resource conference, I explained not only is the gold market rigged, so are all the US financial markets. For a roadmap to the manipulations I cited Professor Tinsley's paper, etc. Those same attendees now have a first hand glimpse how the Orwellians in New York and Washington do their thing. Today's intervetion after the release of the US trade number in the currency markets was beyond blatant. The number:

08:30 Feb. Trade deficit reported record $61B vs. consensus $59B
Prior deficit revised to $58.5B from $58.3B.
    * * * * *

The dollar began to tank, as it should have on such a surprise number. AND THEN, it turned around mysteriously and roared higher. Even Dow Jones choked on this one:

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The dollar was modestly higher in early New York trading Tuesday, in a perverse reaction to an unexpected jump in the U.S. February trade deficit to a new record high...-END-

The reaction from a fellow Cafe member:

Wanna explain to me where the government comes up with $36.85/barrel of imported in February, when it averaged around $48/barrel on the NYMEX?? The public is being fed 3 square meals a day that drops from the back-end of a Texas steer and being told to enjoy it.....

actually Bill, a 1-minute chart of the reaction of the dollar and the precious metals after the release of the trade deficit can be seen as the poster-child representing a new American paradigm: it is completely worthless trying to trade the US markets based on publicly released information. this idea first permeated the stock market, with accounting fraud going largely unnoticed and remarkably unpunished. Now it is endemic in what should be the even more efficient markets of currencies and precious metals. and this is what the Orwellians want: complete public disinterest in the markets. god help us all...George Orwell was incredibly accurate in his vision, just not the timing....the Orwellians are rendering our financial markets completely inefficient and worthless except for those in control.
    Dave

The explanation by the pundits on the strange dollar turnaround held no water. Rick Santelli :D of CNBC said the dollar rally was due to market player's concern over the Fed's release of the minutes of their last meeting this afternoon and that US interest rates might shoot higher. Well, if that is the case, why didn't US rates move higher simultaneously with the dollar rally. They barely moved and are now LOWER! Santelli and others made no sense. This is the second time in weeks we have been "fed" the same logic re the dollar move higher, yet with US interest rates not moving at all. How long can this Cry Wolf routine work?

Gold was higher during the night, moved higher on the dollar news and then was clocked by JP Morgan Chase, a veteran cabal hit man. While there still is two hours left in trading, I can get my commentary done now. There is NO HOPE of gold moving up today with The Gold Cartel all over the market.

The Gold Cartel and PPT have thrown all caution to the wind re their manipulation of the US financial markets. MIDAS has noted for a month how aggressive the cabal has been with their price suppression maneuvers. Meanwhile, they are propping up the dollar on a weekly basis. Yet, US interest rates have stopped going up. All of this leads me to the same conclusion I have had for a month ... there is a massive interest rates derivatives problem out there ... the neutron bomb has been lit. Therefore the PPT crew is petrified of the dollar swooning and gold rising because it could further aggravate the problem. They need US interest rates to stay low as possible with volatility kept to a minimum. IMO this is why they are being so aggressive with their dollar/gold market manipulation.

The gold open interest rose 3597 contracts yesterday as the cabal forces sat all over the market to counter spec buying. The silver open interest gained 1601 contracts to 101,643.

.....The final battle !! 8o

    Anyhow,

Lets wait and hang in ! ;)

Nothing last forever, what goes round comes around, and what goes up must come down. So the Dow and the Dollar !!!

AFCAN Mining Corporation: Start of 2005 Exploration Programme at

    Tanjianshan
Tuesday April 12, 10:58 am ET

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 12, 2005) - AFCAN (TSX:AFK - News) is pleased to announce the commencement of its 2005 field exploration programmes at Tanjianshan.

At Jinlonggou, the targets are the zones between the main deposit and the satellite deposits of M7 and Pubugou. The work programme, comprising mapping, trenching, surface and underground validation sampling and 5,000 metres of HQ core drilling, is expected to greatly increase total resources by additions not only from Jinlonggou extensions to the M7 and Pubugou deposits, but in the deposits themselves. The previous owners tested M7 and Pubugou by substantial drilling and underground sampling, yet neither deposit is yet included in the current resource inventory. Mapping and sampling validation commenced on the 7th April and drilling is expected to start in early July, following completion of mapping, interpretation and targeting.

At Qinlongtan, a 2,000 metres HQ core drilling programme will target the down plunge extensions of the mineralisation to the south and this is expected to greatly increase the high grade resources there. In addition the drilling will test for repetitions of mineralised shoots nearer surface and also try to locate the fault offset, high grade structure at the northern end. Drilling is expected to start at the end of May.

Mapping, sampling, ground geophysical methods and 3,000 metres of drilling are planned for some of the more promising of the 23 prospects delineated on the four exploration tenements. The tenement block covers a total of 338 km2.

At Xijingou, old surface mine workings together with limited drilling have identified substantial zones of gold mineralisation. A 12 holes programme of shallow drilling, together with validation sampling is expected to provide appropriate data for resource estimation.

One of the more exciting prospects on the tenements is the Huitugou - Palonggou structure. This is a major NNW-SSE trending fault which extends the length of the Tanjianshan range. Sampling from trenches and shafts indicate that the structure is gold mineralised over a substantial strike length. The zone will be explored by mapping, trenching and drilling. The Mantougou Prospect was discovered as part of Afcan's 2004 regional exploration programme and will be sampled underground by excavation of an adit and cross cuts. At Qinlongtan, previous mapping and sampling has indicated that there are a number of other mineralised horizons parallel to the main zone. These will be traced by detailed mapping, trenching, and ground IP/Resistivity geophysical methods.

Exploration work on the four tenements is undertaken by Afcan's JV partner, The First Brigade for Geology and Mineral Exploration of Qinghai Province (Q1) under Afcan's supervision and will start at the end of April.

In addition to work on the Tanjianshan Project, Afcan is also reviewing investment opportunities in other advanced projects within Qinghai Province as well as other Provinces in China.

The samples are prepared at an on-site sample preparation laboratory constructed and set up by SGS Laboratory Services Ltd. Pulp samples of 100gm are sent to Genalysis Laboratories in Perth, Australia for analysis by fire assay using a 50gm sample. Duplicates are sent to Standard and Reference Laboratories also in Perth for 50gm fire assay with "part and weigh" detection."

All programmes are being carried out under the supervision of Phil Fillis, an independent geological expert and Qualified Person for Afcan.

AFCAN is an emerging gold producer in China and owns 85% of the TJS Project at Tanjianshan in Qinghai Province. A Bankable Feasibility Study has been completed on the Project, detailed design has commenced with construction starting shortly. There are an additional 23 anomalies on the licence area of 341 km2 that are being explored. Afcan growth is focused on exploration and development of its advanced projects.

Glamis Gold Announces 84 Percent Increase in Gold Production for the
    First Quarter Of 2005

Tuesday April 12, 8:50 am ET

    RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2005--All amounts in US$
Glamis Gold Ltd. (TSX:GLG - News; NYSE:GLG - News) today announced a new quarterly production record of 93,700 ounces of gold. Gold production for the first quarter of 2005 increased by 84 percent compared to the initial three months of the previous year. Total cash costs for the latest quarter were $187 per ounce, a decline of $18 per ounce from the first quarter of 2004.

The substantially improved quarterly results reflect excellent performance during the first full quarter of production from the Company's new El Sauzal mine in Mexico, progress on the Marigold mine expansion in Nevada and another solid operating quarter at the San Martin mine in Honduras. Production results on a mine-by-mine basis are as follows:

    Q1 2005 Q1 2004
    ------- -------
    Total Total
Gold Ounces Cash Costs Gold Ounces Cash Costs
    ----------- ---------- ----------- ----------

    El Sauzal 43,500 $124 - $ -
    Marigold(1) 28,200 227 17,200 248
    San Martin 22,000 263 28,900 174

    ----------- ---------- ----------- ----------
    Total 93,700 $187 50,900 $205

    (1) Glamis' two-thirds interest.

Kevin McArthur, President and Chief Executive Officer of Glamis Gold said, "The first three months have been a very positive start to the current year. As projected, gold production has increased substantially and the decline in total cash costs during the first quarter is better than planned, particularly in light of continuing increases in fuel and reagent costs. We are especially pleased with our new El Sauzal mine that has performed exceptionally well and continues to exceed expectations."

"Glamis looks forward to a strong year as the Company accelerates its growth program. We are already ahead of schedule to produce 400,000 ounces in 2005 at an estimated total cash cost of $185 per ounce and are projecting a further increase in gold production to more than 600,000 ounces in 2006. We continue to make excellent progress at our Marlin project in Guatemala where commercial production is expected to commence in the fourth quarter."

Glamis plans to announce its complete financial results for the quarter on May 2, 2005, and will host an analyst presentation on May 5 in conjunction with its Annual General Meeting at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto. The Annual General Meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT and the analyst presentation at 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Glamis Gold Ltd. is a premier intermediate gold producer with low-cost gold mines and development projects in Nevada, Mexico and Central America. The Company remains 100 percent unhedged, leaving 100 percent of the gold upside to its shareholders.

An In-The-Money Call On Silver Listed on AMEX

    By David J. DesLauriers
    07 Apr 2005 at 02:00 PM EDT

TORONTO (ResourceInvestor.com) -- Mines Management [MGN] is the sole owner of a behemoth deposit in Montana comprising 260 million ounce of silver and 2 billion pounds of copper.

The Montanore project was acquired in 2002 from previous operator Noranda [NRD]. Canada's largest mining company invested 14 years in Montanore, completing $125 million of development work on the site. Expenditure included 70,000 feet of diamond core drilling, a complete mine plan and feasibility study, a 14,000 ft evaluation adit, and a fully approved Environmental Impact Study. That's a wealth of information that to be tapped as MGN optimises a production plan.

Mentioning mining hostile Montana to an investor can leave him queasy, but Montanore is planned to be an underground mine. That ensures it will not be caught up in the disastrous Initiative 147. More importantly, Noranda permitted the project with an EIS in 1993 and all of the nuisance suits brought by various green groups were rejected, such that there is now a Federal Court precedent in favour of Montanore. Not only that, the newly elected Governor of Montana, Bryan Schweitzer, a Democrat who made his living in natural resources, has publicly announced his support for the project which is located in a part of the State that currently suffers from 18% unemployment.

Based on some of Noranda’s original work, the company has set a timeline for the project, and adumbrated the cost of mining. An updated feasibility study and re-permitting will take between 12-24 months to complete. With $6.4 million presently in the treasury, it is likely MGN may look to do a raising of $20-$40 million over the next 12-18 months. A TSX listing could also be in the cards to take advantage of the Canadian broker dealer network's fund-raising ability.

Subsequent construction would take 24-30 months and the cost to enter production would be sizeable; somewhere in the range of $250-$350 million. As stated to Resource Investor, MGN is in a very good position to handle a financing of this magnitude through the skills of director Robert Russell, who once managed and oversaw an expansion of the goliath Grasberg Mine.

Using $1.10 copper as a by-product credit, production costs are estimated to be $2.90 per ounce of silver produced. Production levels, using the base case scenario, would be 8 million ounces per year making Montanore the world’s sixth largest silver mine.

With only 13.3 million shares fully diluted, MGN’s present market capitalization net of cash is $65 million, suggesting that the market is currently valuing their silver at about $0.25 per ounce. This is a fraction of its peer group which includes companies such as Apex Silver [AMEX:SIL], Western Silver [AMEX:WTZ] and Silver Standard [NasdaqNM:SSRI].

The point that the market seems to be overlooking is that unlike some of its competitors, Mines Management’s ounces are all in the money. They are not simply hoarding ounces that will be feasible (hopefully) north of $10 silver. Nor is it the case with MGN, as with some others that their ounces are scattered over the globe, their eventual economic viability difficult to measure.

Production may be five years away but in the meantime, the company’s shares will act as a leveraged proxy for silver, representing one of the few in-the money calls that can also boast economically viable ounces.

    Be careful, bulls...

Yours and Westerfield's comments are only valid (or at least more so) during the exploration stage. Once a project has a Bankable Feasibility Study, EIS and the like, you cannot bet on rising commodity prices, alone. The NPV must be calculated and it's sensitivities understood. You must be cognizant of the operating margin, and it's ability to fund (repay) project debt. As well, at the time of Noranda's work there was environmental bonding insurance available - these days, Montana and many/most western states have been requiring cash bonding, and for a $350 million project, that could be a substantial sum of "restrricted cash". Better add that in, too... In this case, you must be willing to bet on an outcome that disfavours the USFWS and environmental challengers - your view of commoditiy prices, and even NPV, is moot. Good luck!

    Underground strikers face axe

    12/04/2005

Miners persisting in an underground strike in KwaZulu-Natal have been given 48 hours to abandon their action of face possible dismissal.
Durban - Miners persisting in an underground strike near Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal have been given 48 hours to abandon their action of face possible dismissal, a union leader said on Tuesday.
"They're on a knife edge," said Solidarity trade union spokesperson Reint Dykema after a Labour Court order was served on the workers on Monday evening.

The order meant they had to evacuate the Kwashaleza shaft by 17:00 on Wednesday.

"If they don't leave they face possible disciplinary action by the company or could even be fired," Dykema said.

About 500 miners went on an underground strike at the Zululand Anthracite Colliery (ZAC) on Thursday last week.

Dykema said the men feared they would lose their benefits or jobs after the mine was sold as a going concern by Ingwe Colliers to Riversdale Mining.

Some of the companies Riversdale consisted of were previously placed under administration, giving rise to fears that the ZAC would also run into difficulties.

Zululand District mayor Zanele Magwaza said on Tuesday she would seek to broker a meeting with the mine management in a bid to resolve the matter.

Magwaza said the mine was one of the biggest employers in her area, and was contributing a levy of R60 000 a month to municipal coffers.

The Congress of SA Trade Unions said it had already spoken to members of the provincial government, and hoped the impasse could be resolved.

Cosatu spokesperson Zed Luzipho said local government MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu had promised to get the help of Economic Affairs MEC Zweli Mkhize, and possibly that of premier S'bu Ndebele.

Last night, ZAC spokesperson Michael Campbell said 10 miners had abandoned their illegal underground strike to seek medical help.

He said some had been feeling unwell - one of them had 'flu - and some were feeling claustrophobic.

At least 12 striking miners were reportedly suffering from exhaustion and dehydration by Tuesday morning. Two others had already been taken by ambulance to a nearby clinic.
