    Kebble partners ponder future

    02/10/2005 12:59

Johannesburg - The empowerment partners of mining finance house JCI will have to reflect on what has happened, as the reality that Brett Kebble is no more sinks in.
Andile Nkuhlu, a Kebble colleague at JCI and business partner, said they would use some of the insight into what Kebble was planning to chart a way forward. :D

"Brett had shared some of his ideas with us and we have worked and have good relations with other family members," said Nkuhlu, adding that those discussions would take place after the family and the partners had mourned the loss of the mining entrepreneur.

Kebble met his death when he was in the process of handing over the day-to-day responsibilities of Western Areas, Randgold & Exploration (R&E) and JCI, the three companies he headed until late August.

That process is going to be delayed.

The decision to step down was one of the conditions from Investec which refinanced JCI.

Even at that time, Kebble remained committed to empowerment, a cause he championed better than most white business people.

"I will remain a non-executive director of JCI and will encourage the nurturing of its empowerment portfolio and support the new leadership of the companies in the JCI Group in any way I can, in the interest of all stakeholders," said Kebble in the statement announcing his stepping down.

Nkuhlu said Kebble embraced empowerment :D..even though he had the privillege of being in a position where he could not care.

The two latest developments put the empowerment deals that Kebble concluded under the spotlight.

Long-time business associate of Kebble and executive chairperson of Matodzi Resources, Sello Rasethaba, said the empowerment partners had legal contracts with JCI and those would be honoured.

"We may not get the easy terms that Kebble offered us," said Rasethaba, adding that some deals were struck at less than prime. :D

Prince Booi, director of empowerment rating agency Empower Logic, said the new board was likely to review the existing deals.

"Behind each empowerment deal there are strategies driving it towards growth. The review may be to measure whether the empowerment partners have added any value," said Booi.

He said the injection of new people would mean a fresh approach to things and that could benefit the empowerment partners.

Kebble clearly had friends in business - and they were mostly in empowerment circles. ...... (Black Mafia)

Most of his critics came from the other deals he had concluded.

Even his critics this week alluded that he had a sharp mind, making him a formidable negotiator.

At the time of his death, Kebble was in the process of explaining the transaction that involved the "missing" 14,4 million shares that R&E claimed to hold in Randgold Resources.

This was the latest in a string of Kebble dealings that left some shareholders in the companies he ran disgruntled. X( X( X(

    Good luck

    Merrimar weekly forecast:

In the precious metals, we note that gold made a new 17-year high at 477.00 this past Thursday. This is just two days before the Mars retrograde phenomenon that we discussed the past two weeks as correlating with yearly highs in Gold within two weeks. So our forecast is correct, even we don’t usually make forecasts in this column (that is reserved for our subscribers of our subscription reports). But as long as we are at it, let’s now see if Gold can drop back $60.00-100.00 before the end of the year, setting up a great buying opportunity as part of our “crisis investment” scheme. We want to buy Gold for the long haul if it does, for if my ideas are correct, Gold could rise to 600.00-800.00 (and Crude Oil to $100.00/barrel) by the time of the great “Cardinal Climax” in 2008-2011. Silver also performed well last week, reaching 764 in the December contract on Fri9daym, before selling off rather sharply into the close. That might have been it for the precious metals for a while.

    Short-Term Geocosmics:

Last week’s column discussed the major geocosmic signatures that are now unfolding: Mars retrograde and Venus in opposition to Mars, both on October 1. But another important geocosmic event taking place this week is Monday’s very powerful solar eclipse in Libra, which will be only three degrees away from the Moon’s south node. The closer an eclipse is to a lunar node, the more “total” it is. That is, the duration of the eclipse lasts longer as it approaches exactness of conjunction to the lunar node. Consequently in astrology, we assume that the greater the duration of an eclipse, the more profound and enduring its relationship will be to world and mundane events.

An eclipse happens under a new moon. It is when the Moon intersects the plane of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, thereby appearing to “block out” the Sun. In those parts of the world where it is daylight at the moment of a total solar eclipse, the day become like night. In fact, animals and plants of nature are said to act as if the day has ended. They retire, withdraw, and go to sleep. But in astrology, we would look at it as time when the principles of the moon (emotions, feminine energies, the “past,” changing conditions) intercept the principles of the Sun (visionary processes, the “future,” successful activities, male energies). In a sense, it is as if the plans for the future have to now be put on hold until the situation of the past is properly attended to. We can’t go forward with our plans until we correct the problems that have just arisen, due to our denial or negligence of the past. In the United States , this may pertain to the huge losses associated with Hurricane Katrina, and to some extend, Hurricane Rita. The enormous task of rebuilding Iraq as a democracy has suddenly taken a turn, in terms of foremost priority to many Americans. Now we have a more immediate priority, and that is the enormous cost it will take to rebuild New Orleans and other communities destroyed along the Gulf Coast .

The other thing to know about a solar eclipse is that it conjuncts either the North or South Node of the Moon. Generally speaking, North Node eclipses are considered more positive. This is a South Node one. But it is happening in Libra, which is generally considered a more “positive” sign influence of the zodiac. Markets tend to like planets in Libra, and so the solar eclipse in Libra has produced a week of buying in the equity markets. The markets rallied. The question, of course, is whether these markets will continue to rally after the eclipse. With Mars also turning retrograde October 1, there is an astrological reason or two to think that they might not. There is reason to think that any market that has been in a “trend” the past week or two, might now reverse, and especially those markets that have been going up.

    Longer-Term Thoughts:

In my opening comments, I mentioned the forthcoming “Cardinal Climax” of 2008-2011. This is a period where Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto will all enter into cardinal signs. In fact, they will create what is known as a T-square formation to one another for the first time since 1930-1931. Of most interest to astrologers will be the period around August 1, 2010 , when Jupiter will join Uranus in 0 Aries, at the same time Mars will join Saturn at 0 Libra, and both will form a square to Pluto at 3 Capricorn. It is very unlikely that some earth shattering event will happen right on that date, but I think it is reasonable to assume that major shifts in the collective will occur within say 18 months of that date. These shifts that may be so profound that we will think to ourselves that things will never be the same again – sort of like what happened when the Berlin Wall came down in 1989.

For now, though, there is plenty to keep us focused for the next 10 weeks, as Mars turns retrograde. This is a period that highlights the Mars principles, and what happens when those principles are not applied in a constructive fashion. Mars is energy and initiative, the drive to do new things, to pioneer into new areas. Those are some of the constructive applications of Mars. But when destructive, Mars can be combative, argumentative, and on the attack. When that side of Mars is applied, then the aggressor is usually the loser. Think of Argentina and the Falkland Islands in the early 1980’s. That is one example of what can happen under a Mars retrograde.

Mining can be cruel to nature, but business is business one day.

Was ist sonst noch schaedlich fuer die Umwelt ?
The entire planet is raped every day by humans.

Solange sie mit ihren 4 x 4 durchbreschen koennen ist es ihnen egal ob Arbeitsplaetze geschaffen werden.

Die werden schon einen Kompromiss finden, IMHO.

Many guys are Hill Billies and stubborn on top,... I guess.

    Enjoy your weekend

SA to give food to neighbours

    30/09/2005 18:43

Johannesburg - South Africa said on Friday it will give food assistance to seven drought-ridden countries including Zimbabwe after aid agencies warned of a looming humanitarian crisis in southern Africa. "The government has given favourable consideration to a recent request by the WFP (World Food Programme) for assistance in the light of the current food vulnerability in the region," the agriculture ministry said.

Some R140m ($22m, €18m) will be allocated to provide food directly and help households produce their own sustenance, the ministry said.

South Africa will help Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe

More than 10 million people are in need of food aid in southern Africa, according to UN food agencies, which have warned that the situation could become as critical as in Niger, where 2.5 million of the country's 12 million people are facing food shortages.

The two worst-hit countries in the region are Malawi and Zimbabwe, both with around four million people in need of food aid, although Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe maintains that only 2.4 million in the 13 million population need help.

Food shortages is only one item on a long list of problems in Zimbabwe including sky-high inflation and unemployment, all on the backdrop of serious political tensions.

The WFP warned in July that food shortages in southern Africa were expected to persist until the next harvest in May 2006.

It urged donors to come up with $266m - or 477 000 tonnes of food - immediately for the southern African countries "to avoid widespread hunger from developing into a humanitarian disaster".
