Hanf u. G. Niehus Der „Magische Ring von Paußnitz“ – gestern wurde das Geheimnis seiner sagenumwobenen Inschrift gelüftet. Gefunden wurde er 1898 in Paußnitz bei Strehla. In seiner blauen Arbeitsjacke steht der Paußnitzer Freimut Schreiber im Garten. Eine große Rasenfläche, Obstbäume. Nichts Ungewöhnliches. Dennoch ist der Platz etwas ganz Besonderes, fast schon heiliger Boden für Archäologen. Denn hier hat Schreibers Urgroßvater den „magischen Ring von Paußnitz“ der Erde entrissen – ein Schmuckstück, das sich für die Wissenschaft als harte Nuss erwiesen hat. Zwölf rätselhafte Schriftzeichen zieren seine Oberfläche. Symbole, die sich all die Jahre jeder Interpretation entzogen hatten. Jetzt ist die Nuss geknackt. Vier Forschern aus München und Halle ist nach zwölf Monaten die Entzifferung und Interpretation der mehrfach verschlüsselten magisch anmutenden Buchstaben- und Symbolgravuren gelungen. „Verneine mich Christus“, lautet die Botschaft. „Eigentlich hatte mein Urgroßvater damals nur einen Baum planzen wollen“, so der 83-jährige Freimut Schreiber. Die Erzählung vom Ring ist längst Teil der Schreiber‘schen Familiengeschichte geworden. Der Finder Emil Schreiber berichtete sie seinen Kinder, die gaben sie an die nächste Generation weiter. Jetzt erzählt sie der Urenkel. Doch längst interessiert sich nicht mehr nur die Familie dafür. „Beim Ausheben der Kuhle stieß mein Urgroßvater auf ein Keramikgefäß, gefüllt mit mehreren hundert Silbermünzen“, fährt Freimut Schreiber fort. „Und ganz obendrauf lag der Ring.“ Sofort begann damals ein Gefeilsche, Handeln, Anbieten und Schmeicheln. Das Münzkabinett des Grünen Gewölbes Dresden, zwei Sammler aus dem benachbarten Mühlberg sowie ein Antikhändler aus Großenhain versuchten sich auszustechen. Schließlich gelangten die Münzen in verschiedene Hände. Das Museum in Halle konnte nur sieben Münzen ergattern. Dafür gelangte es für 15 Mark – ein wahrer Schnäppchenpreis – in den Besitz des Schatzgefäßes und des Ringes, dem interessantesten Objekt des wertvollen Fundes. Wie interessant, das zeigt sich erst jetzt, nach der Entschlüsselung. „Die Arbeit war unheimlich spannend, ein richtiges Sherlock-Homes-Rätsel“, berichtete Michael Schefzik, Pressesprecher des Museums in Halle, gestern der SZ. Obwohl er selbst nicht daran beteiligt war, ist im die Begeisterung anzuhören. „,Verneine mich Christus‘ ist eigentlich nur die wörtliche Übersetzung“, setzt er hinzu. „,Vernichte mich Christus‘ wäre exakter.“ Was so gewalttätig klingt, war ganz anders gemeint. Diese magische Anrufung sei als Ausdruck „innigster religiöser Hingabe zur Erlangung des Seelenheils“ zu werten. „Das eigene Ich soll ausgelöscht, um daraufhin vollständig vom Geiste Christi durchdrungen zu werden“, sagte der Münchner Theologe Olav Röhrer-Ertl, der gemeinsam mit seinem Sohn an der Entschlüsselung arbeitete. Eine spannende Frage konnten aber auch die Experten nicht beantworten: Wer war der Träger des Rings? Die Botschaft auf dem Schmuckstück – die vermutlich gegen Schadenszauber wirken sollte – steckt voll vorderasiatischer Mystik. Deswegen war der Schöpfer wahrscheinlich ein Kreuzritter. Allerdings kein tumber Schlagetot. Nicht von ungefähr knobelten die Wissenschaftler so lange. „Es muss sich um einen hochgebildeten und hochintelligenten Mann gehandelt haben“, berichtete Schefzik. Immerhin war die Inschrift auf verschiedene Weise verschlüsselt. Das fängt schon bei den Zeichen an. „Es handelt sich dabei um verfremdete irisch-angelsächsische Buchstaben“, sagt der Wissenschaftler. Doch die wurden im 12. Jahrhundert, der wahrscheinlichen Entstehungszeit des Ringes, auf dem europäischen Kontinent schon seit Jahrhunderten nicht mehr verwendet. Der geheimnisvolle Ringschöpfer muss also ein fundiertes Wissen über Schriftkunde gehabt haben. Und nicht nur darüber. In den zwölf Symbolen steckt auch jede Menge Zahlenmystik. Der große Unbekannte hatte also auch mathematisch einiges auf der Pfanne. Von seinem reichhaltigen theologischen Wissen ganz zu schweigen. „Ganz bestimmt handelt es sich um einen Prominenten, jemanden, der aus Chroniken und Überlieferungen bekannt ist“, ergänzt Schefzik.
