  • Excellon having trouble with the natives at Platosa

    2008-01-16 17:00 ET - News Release

    Mr. Richard Brissenden reports

    EXCELLON CORPORATE UPDATE

Excellon Resources Inc. wishes to update investors with respect to two recent events concerning the company's Platosa test-mine operations.

Excellon Resources Inc. has learned that workers at Penoles Naica mine went on strike on Tuesday in a pay dispute. The company understands that Penoles normally has good relations with its workers and unions, and that strikes at its mines and smelters are not that common. Penoles has said that it will continue to try to reach a pay agreement with the union. The company understands that, for the duration of the strike, the Naica mill, to which the company currently sells the production from its Platosa test mine, will be unable to accept any further shipments from Platosa. The company is of the view that a strike of short duration will not materially affect the company's operations, but that a prolonged strike could have a material adverse effect on its cash flow from operations. If it appears that the strike will be prolonged, the company will take appropriate steps to reduce its operations and thereby conserve its cash resources.

The company also reports that a number of individuals, some of whom are from the neighbouring Ejido La Sierrita, have instituted a peaceful protest that is restricting access to its Platosa test-mine. The company believes this protest is a tactic in connection with the negotiations between the company and La Sierrita with respect to the purchase or lease by the company of certain Ejido lands, and is extremely disappointed that certain members of the Ejido appear to have precipitated this action. While the protesters are permitting a skeleton crew to enter the mine and maintain water pumping, ventilation and other critical activities, general mining operations have been suspended while the protest is in place.

An Ejido is an agricultural co-operative, in which individual members of the Ejido have the right to use and/or cultivate specific portions of the lands owned by the Ejido. Excellon has been an integral part of the local community from the beginning of its operations at Platosa, supporting and initiating a large number of projects at Ejido La Sierrita, and in the nearby town of Bermejillo. The company has been negotiating with La Sierrita in good faith for months with respect to the proposed land acquisition, and has involved local, state and federal governments to ensure the company has complied with all relevant Mexican laws and requirements in its dealings with the Ejido. In late 2007, all parties received the results of a valuation of the property carried out by a recognized Mexican authority. The company has offered La Sierrita far more than that value, so far to no avail. The dealings with the Ejido have been a priority of the company for months and it will continue to work diligently trying to come to an agreement satisfactory to both parties. The company understands that Mexican government officials are hoping to meet with the protesters today or tomorrow with a view to ending the protest in a peaceful manner and returning to negotiations. The company is hopeful that the protest will be lifted shortly, but it is not in a position to determine how long it may last. Although the company is willing to return to negotiations with the Ejido, it will not do so as long as the protesters are in place.

The company will provide updates on the Naica strike and Ejido protest as the matters progress.

    Scorpio's Underground Drilling of Santa Teresa Deposit Reports 32.8 metres grading 324 g/t Ag, 5.32% Zn, 0.30% Cu, 1.45% Pb and 10.1 metres grading 0.085 g/t Au and 269 g/t Ag, 7.04% Zn, 0.46% Cu, 7.26% Pb and 0.086 g/t Au
Wednesday January 16, 12:57 pm ET

    TSX:SPM
VANCOUVER, Jan. 16 /CNW/ - Scorpio Mining Corporation (TSX:SPM - News) is pleased to report the first underground drill results targeting the Santa Teresa body from the 9th level of the Nuestra Senora ramp on its 100% owned Nuestra Senora project, Sinaloa State, Mexico.

The Santa Teresa deposit mineralization is exposed at river level approximately 150 metres northeast of the Santo Domingo and 250 metres east of the Nuestra Senora deposit, both of which also outcrop at river level. The Candelaria deposit outcrops on the canyon wall 150 metres above the river level between the Santa Teresa and the Nuestra Senora.

Peter J. Hawley, Chairman, CEO reports, "The previously reported surface drilling of the Santa Teresa deposit (see May 30, 2007 and June 27, 2007 news releases) was from one drill set up with holes drilled at various azimuths and dips to outline the preliminary extent of the mineralization and guide underground drilling. Surface hole NSS-07-81 intercepted 16.5 metres grading 116 g/t Au, 5.30% Zn, 0.28% Cu, 3.44% Pb and 0.207 g/t Au followed by 14.7 metres of 132 g/t Au, 3.61% Zn, 0.36% Cu, 3.02% Pb and 0.199 g/t Au.

"Today's reported results are located approximately 180 metres vertically below surface and drilled horizontally from the 9th level. The intercepted mineralization lies only 17 metres from the haulage ramp and can be easily accessed for extraction. The exploration team is very excited by the results received and is focusing on follow-up drilling at the various levels based on three dimensional modelling of the mineralized zone."

"The Company continues to focus on defining the known mineralized bodies to be incorporated into an integrated mine extraction plan while also successfully exploring at depth and peripheral to these bodies. Based on these early results, the Santa Teresa may have a size and grade similar to that of the Hoag Zone which is presently being extracted."...........................

Yale Starts Phase II Trenching Program at Carol Property
Thursday January 17, 1:48 pm ET

VANCOUVER, BC--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 17, 2008 -- Yale Resources Ltd. (CDNX:YLL.V - News) (Frankfurt:YAB.F - News) is pleased to announce that it has started the phase II exploration program at the Carol Property, located in southern Sonora State, Mexico. This program will include detailed mapping of the key mineralized zones as well as a planned 500 metres of trenching. The goal of this program is to determine if the various mineralized zones previously sampled may form a bulk tonnage oxidized copper-zinc +/- gold-silver deposit.

The phase II exploration program will follow up on the results of the 2007 phase 1 program (summarized below and originally released in news release dated Nov. 27, 2007.) To date the Company has shown that the Carol property hosts two skarn zones: Balde South and Balde North. The Balde South measures approximately 1,100 metres long and 400 metres wide, while the Balde North, located 800 metres away, measures approximately 300 metres by 800 metres.

Within the Balde South skarn mapping and sampling has identified two key zones with visible copper oxide mineralization. The first is approximately 30 by 30 metres and contains several small exploratory workings. Sampling in this area returned a weighted average of 1.73 % Cu, 3.13 % Zn, 11.99 g/t Ag, and 0.21 g/t Au over an average width of 5.33 metres.

The second area, located 500 metres to the south -- still within the Balde South skarn, measures approximately 300 metres by 200 metres. Six samples collected with average widths of 2.9 metres returned a weighted average of 1.54 % Cu, 0.55 % Zn, 10.39 g/t Ag, and 0.35 g/t Au. The upside potential for the Balde South skarn is demonstrated by sample 33, located some 300 to the east, which graded of 1.73 % Cu, 13.65 % Zn, 0.77 g/t Au, and 7.47 g/t Ag over 4.0 metres.

Irregularly spaced chip channel sampling within the centre of the Balde North skarn, over an area approximately 50 metres by 25 metres, returned a weighted average of 0.84 % Cu, 2.38 % Zn, 0.10 g/t Au and 4.57 g/t Ag with an average sample widths of 2.3 metres.

Within the Balde North skarn is the Escondida shear zone from which a sample averaged 2.13 % Cu, 0.74 % Zn, 2.26 g/t Au, and 51.6 g/t Ag over 6.0 metres.

The Carol property is approximately 4 km north of Frontera Copper Corp.'s (Toronto:FCC.TO - News) Piedras Verdes heap leach copper mine. The deposit is reported to have in excess of 200 million tonnes averaging .36% Cu with recent news announcing that increased ore reserves will add approximately two additional years to the mine life. Due to the proximity to Piedras Verdes, the Carol property has excellent infrastructure.

Ian Foreman, P.Geo, is the Qualified Person, according to National Instrument 43-101, for the Carol Property and is responsible for the technical data mentioned in this news release.

  • 2008-01-17 11:48 ET - News Release

    Mr. Keith Neumeyer reports

FIRST MAJESTIC SILVER CORP.: ANOTHER RECORD QUARTER OF SILVER PRODUCTION

First Majestic Silver Corp.'s production in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, 2007, increased again to a record 1,008,299 equivalent ounces of silver, representing a 7-per-cent increase over the prior quarter production and an increase of 76 per cent over the same quarter in the prior year.

The equivalent silver production for the quarter consisted of 868,354 ounces of silver, an increase of 7 per cent over the previous quarter, and 1,107,154 pounds of lead, which represents a 17-per-cent increase over the previous quarter. The large increase in lead production was as a result of improvements to the flotation circuit at the La Parrilla silver mine. Production of gold in the quarter amounted to 490 ounces representing a 12-per-cent increase compared with the prior quarter.

During the quarter, the combined recoveries of silver at the three different mills also showed an increase from 71 per cent to 77 per cent. The overall average silver head grade, in the quarter, also improved for the three mines, increasing by 12 per cent over the previous quarter to 240 grams per tonne of silver over all.

The ore processed during the quarter, at the company's three operating silver mines, the La Parrilla silver mine, the San Martin silver mine and the La Encantada silver mine, amounted to 146,798 tonnes, representing an 11-per-cent decrease and an increase of 56 per cent over the same quarter of 2006.

An aggressive development program continues at all three mines. This activity is continuing for the purpose of opening up additional stopes, grade control, resource development and exploration. A total of 5,346 metres of underground development was completed in the quarter, which for the year 2007 totalled 20,279 m. This compares with 7,719 m developed in the previous calendar year, representing an increase of 163 per cent. This program is important in giving access to new areas within the different mines for preparation of mining, in order to continue the growth of silver production in 2008.

Reserve and resource development remains to be a high priority for the company. Presently, 10 drill rigs are operating on a permanent basis: six rigs at La Parrilla and the Chalchihuites areas, three rigs at San Martin and one rig at La Encantada. Two additional rigs are being added at the San Martin and two additional rigs are arriving shortly at the La Encantada, bringing the total to 14 rigs operating on the company's properties, by the end of the first quarter. Also, in line with the company's aggressive resource development strategy, 9,778 m of diamond drilling was completed during the quarter, covering 43 holes. During the year ended Dec. 31, 2007, a total of 37,176 m of diamond drilling was completed, which compares with 28,283 m drilled in 2006, representing an increase of 31 per cent.

Total production during 2007 reached 3,561,171 ounces of silver equivalent, representing an increase of 176 per cent compared with the previous year's 1,289,234 ounces of silver equivalent. Even though management is pleased with the substantial increase in silver production compared with 2006, production for the year was lower than originally estimated. The higher tonnages feed through the mills at the La Parrilla and La Encantada resulted in a number of failures of old equipment, which thus required replacement or rehabilitation. Also, at the San Martin, maintaining optimal head grade was the primary challenge, which required management to decide to reduce tonnage rates to give the present development program time to prepare areas within the mine.

Keith Neumeyer, president and chief executive officer, stated: "The year 2007 marked a year of consolidation of our three producing operations under the First Majestic umbrella. As can be expected, many challenges were experienced managing the dramatic growth of our business. This substantial achievement resulted in increases in silver production of 176 per cent, year over year, and increases in defined NI 43-101-compliant silver resources of 133 per cent. As a result of the work completed in 2007, and the significant additions to our management team and the many improvements made at each of our three silver mines, we are targeting to reach 5.5 million ounces of silver production for 2008 and continued increases of defined silver resources can also be expected."

In summary, some of the production improvements and advances made during the year include:

At the La Parrilla silver mine:

    * The completion of the new 800 tpd cyanidation/flotation mill in May, 2007.
    * A new primary and secondary crushing system was acquired in April, 2007.
    * CCD thickener added, filtration area upgrades and oxygen injection system was installed (July through November, 2007).
    * Construction of the new tailings dam was completed in November, under budget and on time, giving the La Parrilla an additional 10 years of mine life.

At the La Encantada silver mine:

    * A new 1,500-kilowatt power plant was acquired and installed, and a complete upgrade of the 2,000-kilowatt power plant was completed (June through October, 2007).
    * A new screening plant was added in February, 2007, to take advantage of the above ground stockpiles of ore.

At the San Martin silver mine:

    * Construction began in November, 2007, of a 500 tpd flotation circuit, to take advantage of the large sulphide ore resource, present at the San Martin.
    * A new discovery is being defined at the Rosarios-Condesa (Cinco Senores) vein system, which is parallel to the main Zuloaga vein, where intersections of high-grade silver ore are occurring.

In 2008, improvements are expected to include the completion of the flotation circuit at the San Martin, the replacement of the secondary crusher at the La Encantada, new filter presses at the La Parrilla, and the expansion of the primary and secondary crushing system at the La Parrilla. In addition, an evaluation is presently under way to expand the La Encantada mill by adding a cyanidation circuit. A final decision on size and timing of this expansion is expected to be announced prior to the end of the first quarter.

In addition to the above, and in line with company's program of underground equipment replacement launched with Sandvik in 2006, a total of 12 pieces of underground equipment was delivered in 2007, which added to the six pieces of equipment delivered in 2006. In 2008, the third year of this program, 20 additional pieces of underground equipment are expected to be delivered. These deliveries will include scooptrams, underground trucks and jumbos, intended to provide for improved and more efficient underground operations.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 16, 2008) - Oro Gold Resources Ltd. ("Oro Gold") (TSX VENTURE:OGR - News) is pleased to provide a summary of its 2007 exploration highlights, along with details of its 2008 exploration plans.

    2007 Highlights:

    - Over 4,000 metres drilled at San Isidro and Trinidad

    - New discovery at San Isidro; drill results of 10.8 g/t Au over 5.7 m

    - Title obtained to 651 km2 Trinidad property; low-cost acquisition by staking

    - Trinidad resource expansion potential confirmed; drill results of 3.0 g/t Au over 14.1 m & 13.0 g/t Au over 3.1 m

    - Initial Trinidad resource estimate (NI 43-101 compliant) of 91,915 ounces Au (1,624,400 tonnes at 1.76 g/t Au, using a 0.5 g/t Au cut-off grade)

    - 4 properties optioned to joint venture partners

    - Spin-out of Oro Silver Resources Ltd. completed; ownership of new venture transferred directly to Oro Gold shareholders

    - Oro Silver trading commenced on TSX Venture exchange under symbol: OSR

    - Value of shares owned in joint venture partners and Oro Silver increased over $1-million

"I am pleased to report that Oro Gold has successfully executed its 2007 plans," stated Darren Bahrey, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Two significant milestones were realized; the spin out of Oro Silver which created significant value for Oro Gold and its shareholders, and the completion of the company's first resource estimate. The top goal for 2008 is to aggressively define gold resources sufficient to attract mid-tier and senior gold-producing companies."

    2008 Plans:

Oro Gold plans to complete a minimum of 8,000 metres of drilling its Rosario Gold Belt property portfolio located in Sinaloa, Mexico. The priority targets to be drilled early in the year are located on the Trinidad property with 5,000 metres planned to expand the gold resource and test new targets. Additional drilling will be directed at its other properties in the belt and funded by joint venture partners. Oro Gold's focus continues to be to increase the current gold resource base at its 100-per-cent-owned flagship Trinidad property. The company has restarted drilling with a reverse circulation (RC) drill rig. To date, 10 core and 10 RC holes have been completed, totaling 3,000 m. Assays are pending for 15 of the 20 holes, and expected this month.

Resource estimation activity will be completed as drill results are received and models are updated predominantly for the Trinidad and Cimarron properties. The company is on schedule to complete an updated Trinidad resource estimate during the first quarter of 2008 and expects to report results early in the second quarter. The company also plans to complete a resource estimate on the Cimarron property, following the completion of its first drill campaign, which will be funded by a joint venture partner. A National Instrument 43-101 compliant resource estimate for Cimarron is planned to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2008.

The company initiated a review of the past mining operation by Eldorado Gold Corp. at Trinidad, and has solicited recommendations from external sources on completing an economic evaluation of the abandoned heap leach pad and low-grade stockpiles. Based on this, a forward strategy will be determined to create the most value for Oro Gold.

Oro Gold's top goal in 2008 is to increase its gold resource base and maintain a resource acquisition and discovery cost rate of less than $10 per Au ounce.

Total costs in 2007 amounted to approximately $3-million, of which over $2-million was directed towards project and generative exploration in Mexico and Panama. Oro Gold plans to spend over $4.5-million in 2008, including $1-million to be funded by joint venture partners.

    About Oro Gold

Oro Gold is a gold exploration company with 12 properties located in Mexico and Panama, with 5 of its properties optioned to joint venture partners. The district-scale Trinidad property continues to be the company's top priority project and the main focus of exploration and resource definition efforts. Ongoing generative activity and a joint venture strategy will continue to be a fundamental part of Oro Gold's growth. The company's mission is to build shareholder value by making discoveries and developing low-cost gold resources through aggressive early and advanced stage exploration.

ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

    Darren Bahrey, President and CEO

(2,25 Tiestkurs, geschlossen 2,95) :D
    Leider kein Cah.

Zur Zinssenkung: aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben.
    Aber bringt ein bisserl Luft.

Hab ich bei stockhouse gefunden: Interessante Theorie.

This is excerpt from J B Willie, newsletter Golden Jackass,,,this guy is by far the most accurate newsletter I read,,,excellent,,,and he writes about the majors shorting the juniors so they can get them cheap.
"Mexico Mike suggests that Barrick Gold might be a ringleader, directing gold mining sector collusion. Their Board of Directors include Papa George Bush, hardly a fellow with mining experience or the best motives for gold. Barrick CEO Gregory Wilkins plays to the gold crowd, with “Global mining supply is going to decrease at a much faster rate than people generally believe.” MMike reasons that Barrick might have a mission to short the junior mining stocks on a broad basis, as an adjunct mission to their own illicit hedge book program intended to suppress the gold price. Naked shorting of stocks is more common than realized in Canadian mining firms. Barrick lied in a grand manner in summer 2007, never covered their hedge book, only covered ongoing mines, with half their peak hedge book position still exposed. Yet Barrick masquerades as a favorite large cap gold mining stock in the sector. As majors corner the investment flow of funds on the stock equity side, they can easily use their own higher priced stocks in buyouts of juniors, all in time. This would deprive junior stock investors of their due reward for finding ripe ore deposits. The climax suspicion comes from the NovaGold story, as they successfully defended themselves from a hostile Barrick takeover, only to find themselves on the losing end of an altered engineering estimate for costs at the Galore Creek copper-gold project with Teck Cominco. Suddenly the NovaGold stock price is cut in half. Punishment? Who knows? Watch upcoming acquisition takeover stories. Mexico Mike calls this the biggest market rigging scam of the century."
