Gold und Silber... Informationen und Vermutungen I

  • As you have probably heard, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has gone on record stating that, if the need arose, the Fed would print dollars by the helicopter load to smooth over a collapse in the 25-year borrow-and-spend bubble, a collapse that is now underway.

Putting Bernanke’s words into action, since early August of 2007, the Fed has stepped up to the plate with tens of billions of dollars. On November 15 alone, the Fed injected almost $50 billion into the banking system, the largest single-day cash infusion since 9/11.

Then, on December 12, the Fed announced that it would open the spigots by providing lending $28 billion created out of nowhere to the nation’s banks in exchange for a “wide variety of collateral.''

In other words, the Fed will accept as collateral even the very same toxic waste paper now bedeviling the financial system....more

  • Can the financial system be in as big a mess as central banks' actions suggest? Year end is rapidly approaching, and accounting convention calls for all to strike balance sheets. Those financial statements influence the evaluations of firms by investors, regulators, and rating agencies. Because of credit chaos, those institutions want to show sound, liquid balance sheets. As a consequence of the unusual demand for liquidity, the inter bank market for funds is under serious pressure. The ECB had to provide $500 billion of liquidity to the inter bank market. In part, this situation is due to investors developing an aversion to investing in credit creation. Investors do not want to lend to lenders. All of those markets built on debt, from housing to paper equities, will feel the affect of this growing aversion to investing in credit. Liquidity is being denied and withdrawn as investors shy away. Less credit means less less money flowing into markets, and that means lower prices.

The Federal Reserve surprised markets by adopting a rifle like approach, though term loan auctions, to provide year end liquidity. That action crushed hopes of markets for an immediate and ever ending series of rate cuts. The U.S. dollar had already become seriously oversold, and was coming off a short-term bottom. The shift in rate sentiment further strengthened that rally, as shown in chart. The Dollar's rally, which likely will persist through year end, has pressured Gold. That pressure may continue. Consolidation is not yet complete.
Recent bullishness has not yet capitulated. Investors should prepare themselves mentally for adding to positions below $750. :(
Consolidations are important to investors as they generate investment fuel for the next rally, which will be the next step on the way to $1,400+.

  • Monetary rescue helicopters getting bigger

    By Gillian Tett

    Published: December 18 2007 21:15 | Last updated: December 18 2007 21:15

The monetary helicopters are getting bigger. When the European Central Bank conducted an auction on Tuesday, it initially expected to inject €180.5bn ($260bn) of funding into the markets, based on its past benchmarks of what banks usually need.

In the event, however, 390 institutions demanded €348.6bn of funds.
That is almost four times bigger than the funds dropped by the ECB helicopter into the markets back on August 9, when it first intervened (unsuccessfully) to stop the money market woes. Indeed, Tuesday’s drop equates to an average of almost €1bn, per bank.

The good news is that this has now pushed money market rates down. On Tuesday, the one-month euro Libor rate was fixed at 4.59 per cent, down from 4.92 per cent on Monday.

But the bad news is that there is no guarantee that rates will stay low. The key reason why money market tensions have risen is not a lack of cash in the system perse – but widespread mistrust about the health of banks. In some respects the ECB’s move could exacerbate this psychological trap.

The essential problem is one of signalling. Tuesday’s auction certainly showed investors that central banks stand ready to act. But it also highlighted that Europe’s banks are hoarding cash to an extraordinary degree.

That partly reflects “technical” factors, such as the turn of the year. But it begs questions whether the banks know something nasty that the rest of us do not.

There is a risk, in other words, that the sheer drama of the €348bn number could now stoke up more fear – just as the August 9 intervention exacerbated the sense of panic, by signalling clearly that a credit crisis had begun. The upshot? Don’t expect money market tensions to vanish soon, no matter how big these new helicopters look.

    @Eldo

Was Canadas Meinung dazu angeht: Die Bevölkerung wäre dagegen! Nein.

    Was zum Thread wirklich passt:

The days of reckoning will come...they question is just when.

Wollt ihr den aktuellen POG wissen ?

Der steht bei ca. 800 USD :D Fixpreis

  • Eldorado:

I have referred many many times to my favorite chart. It is the best measure of pure psychology that I know. Lots of people believe that putting lines on charts will tell you when to buy. But no one I know has gotten rich that way. And others want you to believe that all you have to do is do fundamental analysis. But at tops there are 10,000 perfectly valid reasons to buy and at bottoms there are 10,000 perfectly valid reasons to sell.

People buy because of greed and they sell because of fear. They should do it the other way around. The simple chart of the XAU over gold measures both greed and fear. Everyone is terrified of buying right now :D..as shown by the chart below. That means it's time to buy... Correction's over... Back in the pool. Gold shares are going to go much higher and there have only been two better times to buy in the last three years. Those are good odds...

Digitale Welt, wer weiss was man uns hier zeigt.

    Eldo,
so langsam müßte dem Letzten bewußt werden,
wie undurchschaubar manipuliert der Goldpreis ist.

    @all

    Frohes Fest! Pauli
