    CMIGS has learned that The Perth Mint soon will announce that it will cease production its popular Lunar Series coins,both the gold coins and the silver coins. With the year 2007 Pig coins now available, all twelve coins in the Lunar Series have now been minted and the Series is complete. The announcement should put collectors scrambling to complete their sets.


    Tentative plans call for The Perth Mint to accept orders for all the Lunar Series coins through June 30, 2007. Orders received by the deadline will be minted in July and August. After the final coins are shipped, The Mint will then destroy the dies and announce the mintages of all the coins. […]


    Officially, The Perth Mint now calls the 1996-2007 Lunar Series coins its First Series. Lunar coins beginning with 2008 Rats will begin a Second Series. However, the coins in the Second Series probably will be quite different from the First Series coins.


    Whereas the First Series 1-oz coins are 32.10 mm in diameter and 2.80 mm thick, for the Second Series The Mint is looking at a diameter of 38 mm and a thickness less than 1.8 mm, which is close in size to the 1-oz Austrian Philharmonic. The dimensions change means there will be no confusing the First Series coins with Second Series coins, and, of course, there will be the differences in the dates.

    Ich hätte da mal eine Frage zur Lunar Serie an die Experten hier im Forum. Ist die Prägequalität von der polierten Frontseite (Kopf) genauso gut wie bei einer polierten Platte oder sind bei der Lunar Serie feine Microkratzer vorhanden?

    Die Lunar Series sind sehr, sehr gut geprägt - ich sehe keine Microkratzer. Ich sende vielleicht mal ein 1 oz Pferd an PCGS - will mal sehen, ob die Münze MS 68+ ist........


    Interessant, das die neue Serie so dunn sein sol. Vielen Dank für die Information.....

    Hm, und mir gefällt der Philharmoniker gerade wegen dem grösseren Durchmesser so gut. Da ist dann Platz für das Motiv. In der Kapsel macht es doch nicht viel aus wenn die Münze etwas dünner ist.

    Ja 10 Unzen, das ist natürlich etwas anderes. Da spart man dann auch das Geld für eine Lesebrille. :P

    Im kürzen: die Lunar Series I endet im Sommer 2007, egal ob der 30,000 limit pro 1 oz Münze erreicht wird. Das heißt, das die Hase Münze, zum beispiel, eines Tages mehr wertvoll als die Pferde Münze sein könnte. Prägung aller Series I Münzen endet diesen Sommer. sogar von den kleineren 1/4 oz Münzen, etc.


    Only Gold sagt auch, das die Series II 2008 Münze ein Maus, nicht eine Ratte, sein wird.

    confusion um die grossen Lunars:


    während "Westgold" meinte 10-Unzen und 1-kg Goldmünzen der Jahre 1996 bis 1999 nur bestellen zu müssen bei der Mint, meinten andere diese Jahrgänge wären nicht geprägt worden. =)
    Weiss jemand Bescheid?

    Auf der Perth Mint Webseite steht:
    "Gold coins for the Year of the Dragon, Snake and Horse are also available in impressive 1 kilo, 10oz and 2oz sizes."
    Ich glaube, für die Jahre 1996 (Rat), 1997 (Ox), 1998 (Tiger), und 1999 (Rabbit) gibt es die großen Münzen nicht, aber für 2000 bis 2007 kann mann sie bestellen. Gordon Smith (gordons@perthmint.com.au) bei der Perth Mint (Bullion) kann die Frage vielleicht genau beantworten.

    Die Gerüchte, dass die Perth Mint die Produktion der aktuellen Serie der Lunar Gold- und Silbermünzen im Sommer dieses Jahres einstellt, scheinen sich zu bestätigen! Es werden vorauss. nur noch bis Ende Mai Aufträge angenommen. Die Prägestempel der Münzen werden nach Abarbeitung dieser Aufträge vernichtet. Das bedeutet, dass auch alle anderen 1 oz Goldmünzen der aktuellen Lunar-Serie, die die Produktionsgrenze von 30.000 Stück noch nicht erreicht haben, in Kürze deutliche Sammelaufschläge generieren werden. Die aktuellen Verkaufsmarktpreise für die drei bisher ausverkauften Motive zeigen, wohin sich die Preise der anderen Motive entwickeln können: Drache 2000 aktuell ca. 800 EUR, Pferd 2002 ca. 670 EUR und Schlange 2001 ca. 600 EUR.

    Besonders interessant ist, dass die Auflagen der bisher noch nicht ausverkauften Münzen: Ratte (1996), Ochse (1997), Tiger (1998), Hase (1999), Ziege (2003), Affe (2004), Hahn (2005), Hund (2006) und Schwein (2007) dann sogar unter der bisherigen Produktionsgrenze von maximal 30000 Stück liegen können und damit noch seltener als Drache, Schlange und Pferd wären.
