Good drill results will likely continue to be reported and lead the share price higher. ;)

Silver Wheaton set to benefit from Goldcorp and Glamis merger, analysts say
    Craig Wong
    September 1, 2006 - 2:50 p.m.
VANCOUVER (CP) - Silver Wheaton Corp. (TSX:SLW) could be a big winner if Goldcorp Inc. (TSX:G) is successful in its bid to merge with Glamis Gold Ltd. (TSX:GLG), which could potentially add millions of ounces of silver production from its Penasquito project in Mexico when it starts up, analysts say.

Salman Partners analyst Haytham Hodaly suggested Friday that once Penasquito comes into full production in 2009 it could produce more than 20 million ounces of silver per year.

"A portion of that, if structured properly, could go to Silver Wheaton under an agreed upon silver purchase agreement," Hodaly said.

Silver Wheaton, in which Goldcorp holds a controlling interest, holds the rights to buy all of the silver produced by Goldcorp's Luismin mines in Mexico.

Yanacocha says protests threaten gold output
    Mon Aug 28, 2006 2:50pm ET

    By Maria Luisa Palomino

LIMA, Peru (Reuters) - Anti-mining protests at Peru's Yanacocha gold mine have limited output at Latin America's biggest precious metals pit and could force operations to shut down, a mine spokesman said on Monday.

Yanacocha, which produced 3.3 million ounces of gold last year and is owned by U.S.-based Newmont Mining Corp. (NEM.N: Quote, Profile, Research), has faced an upsurge in protests since peasants temporarily took Yanacocha workers hostage this month to demand jobs.

Pinetree ist ein Liebling von DINES und dieser Herr - Sheldon Inwentash, Chairman and CEO - mischt in sämtlichen Kochtöpfen ;)

hier ein Ausschnitt eines Artikels den ich lesenswert finde:
.....Sheldon Inwentash couldn't be happier where he is today-- promoting that other yellow metal, uranium, used to power nuclear plants (and make Iranian bombs). The price of yellowcake, a semirefined ore that is mostly uranium oxide, has quadrupled in three years to $42 a pound; there are now 320 uranium companies around the globe. "You look at the number of nuclear plants on the drawing board or in construction and there literally is not enough available uranium," says Inwentash, a 50-year- old Toronto accountant turned venture capitalist. His numbers don't quite add up. Uranium demand will certainly increase as new plants open in China and India over the next ten years. But, says Felix Killar, senior director at the Nuclear Energy Institute, the industry's lobbying group, "we are not going to have vast uranium shortages. There are people who are taking advantage of the situation."

Inwentash spent the 1990s not in the bowels of a uranium mill but pursuing riches in high tech and biotech via publicly traded venture funds through Pinetree Capital, which he founded in 1992. He did have a meltdown or two, including Visible Genetics, a company that made DNA-sequencing kits used to analyze genes linked to disease. Its shares briefly spiked to $110 on Nasdaq in 2000 before crashing. Bayer (nyse: BAY - news - people ) bought it for $61 million, $1.50 a share, in 2002.

Hoping to recover from the stock market crash, Inwentash turned Pinetree's attention in 2003 to gold and uranium. Since then he and his wife have amassed stakes recently worth a combined $100 million in various natural resources companies that trade on Toronto exchanges. Pinetree, whose stock is up 668% this year, is valued at $275 million. Inwentash and Pinetree, indirectly, also own stakes in Mega Uranium, which aspires to mine the stuff.....

......The LME "Also suspended rules that require some traders with big long positions – those betting on rising prices – to lend metal to short-sellers who need to settle trades", probably in response to the terror of longs who, already cheated out of their money by the corrupt LME, would be forced to lend their metal to some guys who are bankrupt! What are the chances of getting it back?

Simon Heale, who is the worthless chief executive of the LME, is reported to have said: “Nickel stocks are at historically low levels and we now have a genuine material shortage. Our first priority is to ensure that trading remains orderly and to prevent the risk of settlement defaults.” Hahahaha! You would think that Mr. Heale would have a "first priority" to make sure that they don't get into this damned mess in the first place! This irresponsible doofus knew the size of the short positions, he knew the size of physical metal inventory against those short positions, and he knew that nickel was rising in price (and has been rising for months and months). And yet, his only duty, as chief executive of the LME, is to ignore all of that, and merely "ensure trading remains orderly" now that his towering incompetence has resulted in a blowup? Hahaha!........

****Mogambo sez: Some things never change, and one of them is the Boring Advice Of The Mogambo (BAOTM); buy some gold, some oil, and lots and lots of silver, and you will make a lot of money, or don't and you won't. It doesn't get simpler than that!
