Gold Falls From Highest in Nine Days on Concern IMF May Sell

    By Jae Hur

Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Gold fell from its highest in nine days on concern the International Monetary Fund may sell some of its $64.7 billion in gold reserves after some of the fund\'s executive directors recommended a sale.

Some directors of the world\'s third-largest holder of gold yesterday said the fund should sell a portion of its 103 million ounces and invest the proceeds in interest-bearing assets.

``They could actually be doing that,\'\' Darren Heathcote, head of trading at Investec Bank (Australia) Ltd., said when asked whether the fund was likely to sell gold. ``But it depends how many ounces they would sell.\'\'

Gold for immediate delivery fell as much as $1.30, or 0.2 percent, to $629.00 an ounce. It traded at $629.60 at 10:54 a.m. Singapore time.

A sale of gold is among the options before an eight-person panel on IMF finances appointed in May by Managing Director Rodrigo de Rato. The panel, whose members include former Federa Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, is to submit its report early next year. Other solutions include cutting expenses and asking member states to make contributions.

``It could linger as a negative issue until a vote is finally taken,\'\' Man Financial said in a daily note.

Gold may trade between $620 and $635 an ounce for the rest of this week as the U.S. and Japan markets are closed for holidays, trader Ng Cheng Thye said.

    Thanksgiving Holiday

``Gold will still be in a range-trading because of the Thanksgiving holiday which means most people will be squaring their positions\'\' instead of trading actively, Ng, head of precious metals market desk at Standard Bank Asia, said by phone from Singapore.

The U.S. is closed today and tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Still, after-hours trade continues on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Japan is also closed today.

Gold Futures for February delivery rose $0.70, or 0.1 percent, to $636.10 an ounce on Comex at 10:54 a.m. Singapore time.

Platinum for immediate delivery fell $3.50, or 0.3 percent, to $1,153.50. The precious metal slumped the most in 18 years in London yesterday as some investors doubted the prospect of an exchange-traded fund being introduced for the precious metal.

``I would recommend you don\'t trade platinum,\'\' Jonathan Barratt, managing director at Commodity Broking Services, said by telephone from Sydney today. ``The market is too illiquid.\'\'

    Bin gerade erst wieder ON......

Punkt.

    @Eldo...

Warum sollen denn keine besseren Zeiten kommen?
