Hi frr,

Shit!
ZitatBased on IMA's market value, which is three times Aquiline's, investors evidently think IMA will win, or at least not lose the entire Navidad property with a negative judgment. Even Aquiline chief executive officer Marc Henderson admits bagging half of Navidad in a settlement would be close to a best-case scenario

ROAD MAP ON THE MINING STOCKS
Kenneth J. Gerbino
Gold and commodities are going higher in this decade. The graph below shows how commodity prices are relatively priced versus the cost of living. Two important things about the chart is that commodity prices the last four years have already risen by 50%, but from a historic perspective the move looks as if it is just beginning a new and prolonged trend. The inflation adjusted price level today is the same as 1932 at the depth of the U.S. depression when commodity prices had collapsed.
[Blockierte Grafik: http://www.gold-eagle.com/edit…/images/gerbino060905.gif]
Scarce resources such as beachfront property or certain metals are a function of Mother Nature, not man. Men can make machines to make millions of widgets and influence the price by overproduction, but certain metals, and other natural things like oil take billions of years to form and are not subject to the laws of oversupply unless these commodities are found in abundance. In the case of metals and natural occurring commodities, the supply is limited.
But populations grow continually over time generally increasing demand. This, plus inflation from money supply increases will add to upward price pressures. The graph above states the obvious, that the commodity decline from the 80's and 90's is over. A prolonged and strong across the board increase in many commodity prices is under way. This will influence inflation rates and move the price of precious metals higher in the years to come. The above graph is your road map.
Inflation Math Made Easy
Using the very simple and accepted classical measurement of what to expect as an inflationary prediction one would turn to money supply increases. Add 10% more money and you should expect 10% increases in prices sooner or later. Technology and higher productivity helps keep prices down, but many goods are consumed and destroyed which limits supply. Eating a donut means the supply of donuts has just gone down. Established interests deny printing money creates inflation but over the long term it is hard to dispute.
From 1971 to 1975 (5 years) the U.S. money supply increased 33.5 % and over the next 5 years (1976-1980) inflation increased by 55%, and gold went to $850. The 5 years from 2000 to 2004 has seen our money supply increase by 30.4% and I don't believe it is hard to imagine at least a future 30% increase in prices over the next 5 years. This would average an inflation rate of 6 % annually with precious metals logically going up at least that much, which would equal a $562 gold price in 5 years. Inflation is also coming to China (money supply up an average 13% for 7 years in a row)- and that will surely have a strong effect on gold demand in the next few years.
With higher inflation, interest rates will then have to go up, bonds will go down, and industrial stocks will have a tough time.
An economist at the Bank of International Settlements informed me a few weeks ago that the global derivative markets are $279 trillion for exchange traded derivatives but there is an additional $220 trillion in over-the-counter trade derivatives. These numbers are large enough to make one a conservative investor especially when one considers that even a 1% default rate in these speculative and leveraged financial instruments would equal almost the entire U.S. money supply.
Ex-Federal Reserve Board Chairman, Paul Volcker's recent Washington Post opinion article was titled; An Economy on Thin Ice . He basically warned the establishment that a "financial crises" was possible if things did not change. Policy makers in every country know what the guy in the street knows. There is no free lunch. If someone does happen to get one, you can bet that somehow someone somewhere will pay for it. Governments globally are run by an elite group of people who are elected on promises. They all know that if you do not keep the people happy, sooner or later you are either voted out or strung up. The solution for the last 20 years for these voted-in officials has been to print money and run up government debts…but do not stop the parade. But now the parade could be running out of steam and the financial repercussions could be severe.
I have never been an alarmist or a doom and gloom person, but bad economics (from too much debt and money printing) is bad economics. When and if things go bad, it will pay to have liquid assets that are no one else's liabilities and regardless of any disruptive economic scenarios will stand up and be there as a store of value. Precious metals are actually the only liquid asset that can claim that position. The U.S., Japanese, Indian and Chinese economies are still positive. However, as we go forward their stock markets will have a tough time as inflation returns and interest rates follow to the upside.
The main concept I think of when buying a mining company is how much "money in the ground" do I own. If Paul Volcker is right, then the value of mining stocks will rise significantly. A good investment premise in this day and age is to own companies that allow you some financial security and insurance, but also give you exposure to growth and future cash flow. Only certain precious metal mining stocks really qualify. I would guess that 9 out of 10 of the mining stocks out there do not qualify therefore stock selection is crucial.
Portfolios should be diversified across at least a dozen mining companies that have the goods in the ground and are well financed or positioned to bring on new production in the years to come. You want growth to look forward to and also plenty of value in the ground to ultimately protect our wealth. Remember risky exploration companies give you none of the above. The high-risk end of mining should only be for a very small part of your portfolio.
Gold mine supply declined 4.9% in 2004 and there was strong jewelry demand (+5.2%) even with gold above $400 most of the year. Because of this steady and increasing demand sector and because there is at least a 5-10,000 tonne short position in gold (bullion banks and mining hedge books), it is most likely that a gold price below $410-415 is very unlikely. If gold were to go to $500- 600 then this short position could be catastrophic for the shorts. Bankruptcies for the bullion banks and professional oblivion would be the fate of anyone remotely responsible. Therefore I expect plenty of short covering on all sell-offs. This is why I feel gold at $400-410 should be a floor price. Any dips below this level most likely will be short-lived.

Danke Ulfur,
dann hat der, der auf deutsch übersetzt hat, auch einen Fehler gemacht.
Ich hab auf folgendem satz berechnet:
"The average grade of the mined ore was 2.1 grams gold per tonne for a total of 7,871 ounces gold placed on the leach pad for the month of April (13,177 ounces was placed during the third fiscal quarter). "
Aber es dürften nur ca 25000oz jährlich sein,
was wiederum dem "13,177 ounces was placed during the third fiscal quarter" widerspricht, da wären es hochgerechnet ca 53000oz.
Ich hab die 7871oz hochgerechnet auf ca 95000oz., das dürfte auf jeden fall falsch sein.

Northern Orion Announces Updated Agua Rica Resource Estimate and Guidance on Project Economics
Thursday June 9, 8:33 am ET
VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2005--Northern Orion Resources Inc. ("Northern Orion") (TSX:NNO - News; AMEX:NTO - News) is pleased to announce that it has completed an updated resource estimate for its 100%-owned Agua Rica copper/gold/molybdenum project located in northwest Argentina and an interim financial outline of the project that is currently undergoing a feasibility study suitable for financing purposes (the "Feasibility Study"). The Feasibility Study is based on the development of the Agua Rica project on a stand-alone basis. Work on the project to date indicates that the development of Agua Rica is technically feasible and could be developed as a long life, low cost copper/gold/molybdenum mine with strong economics.
Based on the capital and operating cost assumptions outlined below, Agua Rica yields an NPV at an 8% discount rate of US$282 million at a copper price of US$1.00/lb, gold of US$400/oz and molybdenum of US$5.00/lb, producing copper at an anticipated cash cost of US$0.23 per pound, net of byproduct gold and molybdenum credits.
"We are very pleased with the ongoing development of the Agua Rica project and its robust economics in the current capital and operating cost environment and with conservative metal price assumptions," commented David Cohen, President & CEO of Northern Orion. "Our analysis to date confirms that Agua Rica remains one of the premier global copper/gold/moly projects under development as we move the project through its final feasibility. We continue to add highly qualified personnel to our development team led by Brian Montpellier."
Feasibility Study Progress
Northern Orion has initiated a Feasibility Study with Hatch Associates Ltd. ("Hatch") on the construction and operation of a stand-alone mine and processing facility at Agua Rica that is scheduled to be completed early in 2006. Northern Orion has requested Hatch to provide a conceptual level update of the capital and operating costs for the project based on the 1997 Initial Feasibility Study undertaken by BHP to include changes in scope and project infrastructure requirements. The major changes in scope include:
- Relocation of the process plant and tailings into a significantly drier area to the north-west of the mine site.
- A primary crushing station, tunnel and conveying system to handle waste rock and store it near the plant site.
Substantial fieldwork programs and studies are currently underway to support these changes, including drilling to confirm geotechnical, hydrogeological, water, environmental and metallurgical assumptions in the Feasibility Study. Delays in bringing suitable drills onto site for this work program have resulted in a two-month extension of the Feasibility Study, now scheduled to be completed in early 2006.
The Feasibility Study is presently based upon the development of an open pit mine on the Measured and Indicated resource delivering approximately 70,000 tonnes per day of ore at a strip ratio of 1.5 to 1.0. At this operational tonnage, Agua Rica would have a mine life in excess of 30 years. The detailed mine development schedule is currently underway. The following table outlines the anticipated production scenario for the initial 10 years and full life of mine:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Years 1 to 10 Life of Mine
------------- ------------
Ore Milled, Tonnes Per Day 66,478 67,334
Average Grade Copper 0.71% 0.58%
Gold 0.30 g/t 0.24 g/t
Molybdenum 0.03% 0.04%
Annual Production Copper lbs, millions 327 270
Gold ozs 116,000 95,000
Molybdenum lbs, millions 10.8 12.2
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The present plan is that mined ore and waste rock would be conveyed through a 7 km downhill tunnel to the plant site and waste would be disposed of in a waste rock storage facility in the vicinity of the plant. The envisaged process plant is a typical large tonnage concentrator. High grade copper and gold concentrate would be transported via a pipeline and train network to the Parana River for ongoing sea shipment to international smelters.
Economics
The updated preliminary pre-production capital cost (within +/-30% accuracy), including mine site development, mining equipment, process plant, tailings and waste disposal and infrastructure, is estimated at US$996 million as follows:
Direct costs $ 680 million
Indirect costs $ 179 million
20% contingency $ 137 million
-------------
Total $ 996 million
-------------
-------------
The updated preliminary operating cost is estimated at US$6.89 per
tonne milled as follows:
Mining, milling, G&A $ 6.59
Shipping to export port $ 0.30
------
Total cash cost per tonne milled $ 6.89
------
------
Northern Orion has calculated a preliminary, pre-tax, pre-royalties Net Present Value ("NPV") at an 8% discount rate of US$282 million for the life of mine with metal price assumptions for copper US$1.00/lb, gold US$400/oz and molybdenum US$5.00/lb. Pre-production capital payback is estimated at 6.1 years based on the above assumptions. Sensitivity analysis indicates an increase in NPV of:
- US$ 23 million for every US$0.01 increase in the copper price;
- US$ 91 million for every US$1.00 increase in the molybdenum price; and
- US$ 9 million for every US$10 increase in the gold price.
Anticipated cash costs of US$0.23 per pound of copper, net of gold and molybdenum byproducts at the above price assumptions for the life of mine are in the lower quartile of cash operating costs. Cash costs decrease by US$0.003 per pound for every US$10 increase in the gold price and US$0.047 per pound for every US$1 increase in the molybdenum price.
Based on the assumptions outlined above, at current metal prices of copper US$1.55/lb, gold US$425/oz and molybdenum US$37.50/lb, Agua Rica would yield an NPV at an 8% discount rate of US$4.5 billion, a pre-production capital payback of 1.9 years and an estimated cash cost of minus US$1.30 per pound of copper net of byproduct credits.
The Company cautions that the calculations and the projections outlined above are highly preliminary in nature and are based on information and assumptions that are subject to change as the Feasibility Study progresses.
Financing
Northern Orion has completed the selection of a syndicate of debt financing banks to work in parallel with the Feasibility Study in order to develop a project financing facility that includes commercial debt, export credit finance and multi lateral agencies. This syndicate will be announced in June 2005. With over US$140 million in cash and ongoing cash flow from Alumbrera, it is expected that Northern Orion will have the ability to finance the required equity internally.
Resource
An updated mineral resource estimate based on the full set of 176 drill holes was completed in March 2005 as part of the Feasibility Study by Giroux Consultants Ltd. and Hatch. This estimate differs from the earlier estimates in its geological interpretation of zone geometry and provides a more comprehensive set of geological and mineralogical parameters, complementing the previous data generated by BHP Minerals in 1999, and allows for more accurate grade interpolation constrained on revised variography. The updated resource accounts for the distribution and polymetallic nature of the deposit and has increased the Measured and Indicated resources, and significantly the Inferred tonnages previously released in 2003. Northern Orion has identified a Measured and Indicated resource of 1,457 billion tonnes at a 0.2% copper cutoff containing 14.1 billion pounds of copper, 8.9 million ounces of gold and 964 billion pounds of molybdenum and a further 972 million tonnes of Inferred resource at the same cutoff containing 7.7 billion pounds of copper, 4.4 million ounces of gold and 771 million pounds of molybdenum.
The following tables outline the current resource breakdown and previously released 1999 BHP estimate:
