The fact is that the gold sector of the stock market has failed to provide any leverage whatsoever to the gold price over the past 4 years because the price gain achieved by gold has not been substantially greater than the increase in the average cost of producing an ounce of gold or the increase in the cost of building a new mine. But that was then and this is now. The situation has been turning in favour of gold-mining stocks in general and exploration/development-stage gold-mining stocks in particular over the past six months, as evidenced by the major upward reversal in the gold/GYX ratio (gold relative to a basket of industrial metals).

Intelligent speculators in exploration/development-stage gold mining stocks have made huge sums of money over the past several years and are very likely to make huge sums of money over the next several years. However, to play this game well you need a lot of patience because short periods of frenetic price increases are usually separated by very long periods when the stocks drift sideways or downward. The idea is to methodically build positions during the long periods of 'drift' and to harvest profits during the relatively short periods of speculative frenzy.

Jeder Baer fliegt irgenwann vom Baum, also keine Sorgen. ;)

    Silver

Living on its own, silver is a far more useful metal than gold. Silver shows up in myriad places - water purification, electronics, solar panels, medical devices, batteries. One of the largest uses of silver remains photography. Silver crystals are the magic that has made pictures work for almost 200 years. And despite the rise of digital photography, plain old silver halide film isn't actually disappearing as fast as you might think. Silver film remains cheap, permanent, and is well-entrenched in industrial photography (like X-rays).

But silver is also money, in this case, literally. Mexico still mints 2 million ounces of coins that go into circulation every year. Beyond Mexico, silver isn't widely stamped out into circulating coins; rather, the mints use silver like they use gold - as bullion. Silver's use as money spills over into jewelry and silverware.

Unlike gold, however, the long-term case for industrial demand for silver is very strong. Silver typically gets used up in an industrial application: It's generally consumed and doesn't enter the supply chain again (outside of recycling from photographic uses). Moreover, the industrial uses of silver go up every year, especially in electrical and medical applications.

On the supply side, silver is more complicated than gold. Gold comes essentially from one place - gold mines. Silver more often than not comes as a by-product from multi-ore mines; miners might uncover some silver while digging for lead, zinc, copper or gold. As a result, silver supplies can rise and fall not just in response to demand, but in response to demand for all those other metals as well. It makes it hard to judge supply/demand factors for the metal.

Precious metals investors point to historical relationships between gold and silver, and some believe that the two are inexorably linked. Ten seconds in Google will uncover what this "correct" ratio is: 15:1. In other words, every ounce of gold should buy you 15 ounces of silver, give or take. The reason behind this is often lost in translation, but comes down to the same musty thinking that drives people to assume gold must be valuable in the first place. Back in the 1800s, for reasons based not on natural laws but on minting and convenience, England, France, and the United States separately set the value relationship between gold coins and silver coins such that, by weight, the 15-1 relationship was more or less intact.

But throughout the 20th century, as gold and silver were demonetized (legally removed from their relationship to money), the ratio has exploded. An ounce of gold as of this writing buys you 56 ounces of silver, give or take. But to use this as the reason for a bull-run in silver for the next 100 years seems a bit far-fetched. We prefer to fall back on Jim Rogers' logic - nobody can repeal the law of supply and demand - and suspect that silver's price will trend with industrial demand for some time to come.

    Gold, Silver Steady Up

"Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclination, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." --- John Adams

    GO GATA!!!

When gold is crunched, like it has been of late, the norm is that it needs a fair amount of time to recompose itself before the next run higher. The worst (most time to recover to a new higher price in the last 5 years) I can ever recall was when the US Government ORDERED the price down in May of last year after it reached $730 per ounce.

The most important exception to a price recovery was when gold blew through $500, then crashed to check that support level, and then exploded very quickly into higher ground. My thinking earlier was that we might do the same at $800. Not so.

Where from here short term is anybody’s guess. Nothing would surprise me at this point. However, the reasons for gold to shoot for $1,000, and soon, are still in place and actually continue to improve daily. It’s a very simple GATA camp principle. The more it is obvious The Gold Cartel has gone into price suppression mode, in contrast to the visible financial market problems and reasons for the price to go way up, the more the chance physical market buying, due to the right fundamental reasons, is likely to overpower The Gold Cartel’s ability to keep the price artificially low.

At this point gold will need to clear $800 to give us a clue the composure period is over with. When gold does make it through $800, it ought to fly.

It was a choppy day all Comex session long for gold. In the end it made new highs for the day right on the bell.

Silver was really weak early, then rallied sharply mid-day to finish above the psychologically important $14 mark.

The gold open interest fell another 4077 contracts to 482,271 and the silver open interest sank a considerable 3674 contracts to 135,914.

Crude oil fell all the way down to $87.20 per barrel before reversing later on. It closed up 60 cents to $89.31.
The dollar fell slightly to 75.95, off .08. The euro was little changed, but the pound and yen were higher.....end

Keine Ahnung was CEO Black kassiert waerend er nichts macht.

Mal schaun was naechstes Jahr fuer news kommen.

    Robbers cut off mom's fingers

    2007-12-3 22:54

    Mookgophong

Robbers used pruning shears to lop off four fingers of an elderly Limpopo woman and her husband's life is hanging by a thread after he was repeatedly struck on the head with a panga. X(

The horrifying attack and plunder of the couple's home lasted for about eight hours.

When Theuns Janse van Rensburg, 72, lost consciousness, his attackers undressed him and placed him on the couple's bed.

One of the attackers lay next to him, watching television for several hours.

Tienie Janse van Rensburg, the couple's shocked son, told Beeld newspaper: "They hacked my father and left him for dead, and my stepmother is shattered."

Tienie said his father's dentures were found on the floor of the passage. One of Hettie's fingers was also lying in the house.

His father had heard a noise outside the 7th Street house about 20:00.

"My dad went to see what was happening and that's when the attackers must have slipped in at the front door."

    Saw attacker watching TV

One attacker slashed at Janse van Rensburg repeatedly with his panga. Hettie tried to fight back, but four of the fingers on her left hand were severed with a pair of garden shears. Her right arm was also broken.

Bleeding profusely, she ran to the main bedroom's en-suite bathroom, where she locked herself in and used a towel to stem the flow of blood from her hand.

Her unconscious husband was dragged through to the main bedroom, stripped naked and placed on the bed.

Hettie peeped through the keyhole and saw his attacker lying next to him on the bed, watching TV. The attackers fled about 04:00 on Monday, after stealing bank cards, money, a TV set, a DVD player and a hi-fi set.

None of the neighbours had heard anything.

Martin Schmidt, who lives across the road, made the gruesome discovery about 07:00 when he went over to keep a work appointment.

"Hettie called and asked me to help, because her husband was dead."

He found his neighbour lying on the bed on his back. He was covered with a sheet.

"There was blood everywhere. It looked as if someone had slaughtered a cow. To my surprise, Theuns moved and I saw he was still alive."

Hettie remembered only one man attacking them, but on Monday morning three men who worked at Janse van Rensburg snr's gardening service were taken in for questioning by the police.

Janse van Rensburg was moved to Unitas Hospital in Centurion by helicopter on Monday morning.

He was still unconscious on Monday evening. Kate Cvitanic, a spokesperson for the hospital, said he was in a serious, but stable, condition.

Hettie is in the same hospital, in a satisfactory condition.

Another son, Pierre Janse van Rensburg, said his stepmother looked terrible and was confused.

"My father has a fracture of the skull, where he was hit on the head with the panga."

Dries Joubert, the president of TLU SA North, said the number of attacks on elderly people in Limpopo in recent times had amounted to a low-intensity war.

    Farm-stall owner attacked

"Every member of the community must do everything possible to see to their own security."

In another incident on Monday, a woman was attacked in her farm stall in the Mokopane district and had serious facial injuries.

Her nine-year-old daughter called for help with the citizen-band radio.

One of the attackers was arrested at the stall and another between Sterk River and Limburg.

Two more disappeared into the mountains.
