FIGHTING OFF CYNICS WITH GOLDEN GLOVES

    by The Mogambo Guru :D

Lately, I get a lot of emails like "Dear Mogambo Butt-Face Moron (MBFM), I
am distraught because I listened to you and bought silver and gold like
you said to do, and they ain't done squat since then. By this time, I had
planned to be so freaking rich from buying gold and silver, and then
watching it run to astronomical heights, that I could leave my stupid
husband forever and be far, far away from here, sitting on a warm beach
somewhere, sipping a cold Pina Colada brought to me by a handsome cabana
boy named Raoul and having him rub soothing oils and scented emollients
all over my tingling body until I am writhing and moaning with pleasure." 8)

I thought to myself, "Hey! This was starting to get good!" and was hoping
to pick up some pointers from this lucky Raoul character! So, imagine my
disappointment when the writer goes on, "So, since gold and silver did not
produce the spectacular returns I had so eagerly anticipated, I am stuck
here, I am very angry about it, and my husband is pretty disgruntled, too,
since I am now even MORE of a shrill, hateful harpy whose only pleasure in
life is trying to make him miserable enough to commit suicide just to get
the hell away from me. And don't get me started about Raoul, you
Disgusting Mogambo Puke Bag (DMPB)!" :D

Now, as soon as she called me a DMPB, I instantly recognized the writer as
my own wife! Ahhh! Pieces of the puzzle fall into place at last!

Too clever to let her know that I am on to her and her little game, I
casually reply "Dear Cheating Little Scumbag Whore (CLSW), The New York
Times writes that 'Representative Ron Paul of Texas, a libertarian-minded
Republican who often warns that excessive government threatens the
economy, has put his pessimism into his portfolio. If the dollar
collapses, Mr. Paul will be ready: his favorite investments are real
    estate, silver and gold.'" :]

Then I closed my reply with "And Raoul says that you are a big, fat cow."
    Hahaha!

And although the spiteful content of the email was all too distressingly
familiar, the concern is a widely-held one; why isn't gold going to the
moon in light of all of this inflationary insanity all around the world so
that we can get the hell out of here, away from our whining, suffocating
families and maybe find one lousy moment of happiness before we die?

Well, one explanation for the sorry performance of gold comes from a
Telegraph.co.uk report that "Over the past two months the Banco de España
has sold off 80 tonnes of gold, flooding the world market with enough
bullion to dampen the usual spring rally."

Plus, some other European banks sold some gold, too, and the gold ETF had
to sell some gold because some speculators bailed out.

In case you were wondering, this is all part of a desperation move by
Spain to get some money, as their "foreign reserves have plummeted to
wafer-thin levels :D, leaving the country exposed to a possible banking
crisis if the property market swings from boom to bust."

The Telegraph goes on "The Banco de España refused to comment on the
sales, leaving it unclear why reserves have fallen so low, or where the
money has gone", although "It appears the bank has been draining the
reserves to help finance the current account deficit, which has ballooned
to 9.5pc of GDP, reaching ?8.6bn in January alone."

This same current-account problem is affecting the dollar, being as it is
"the idiotic currency of an idiotic economy being run into the ground by
an idiotic Congress letting an idiotic banking system act despicably". :D

And the problems of the dollar will not be going away anytime soon,
either, although it has been up a little here lately. As to that, Chuck
Butler in his Daily Pfenning newsletter writes that the recent bounce in
the dollar "is simply a technical correction" in "the weak dollar trend
that began in February of 2002."

In case you were wondering how he knew that the downward trend of the
dollar started in 2002, he says "The dollar entered the weak trend when
its Current Account Deficit reached the historically telling number of
4.5% of GDP", as "fiat currencies always experienced a currency crisis any
time their deficit to GDP percentage reached 4.5%"

The Current Account deficit is now well over 6% of GDP, in case you were
wondering if things are getting any better. They obviously aren't.

And technical corrections aside, the reason that the dollar is headed down
is that (as the Current Account proves), "An asset begins a weak or strong
trend because of a fundamental reason, and the trend will not end until
    that fundamental reason is corrected."

And what is that reason? A big part of it is that individual Spaniards
have acted just as stupidly as Americans, and "Spain's private sector has
amassed $600bn (£300bn) in foreign debts. Corporate borrowing is 100pc of
GDP. The overall stock of mortgages has increased sixfold in a decade.
Household debt has reached 120pc of disposable income, largely on floating
    rates."

Oddly enough, this news hit my desk at the same time as a page from the
CIA's World Fact Book, which lists Spain as having the second-worst
current account deficit in the world, at $98.6 billion. Parenthetically,
the United States has the world's worst deficit at a gigantic $862.3
    billion.
    :D

In case you were wondering, "Who are the top five in trade and financial
surpluses?" the answer is China ($179.1 billion), Japan ($174.4 billion),
Germany ($134.8 billion), Russia ($105 billion) and Saudi Arabia ($103.8
    billion).

    Shoot-out in Jo'burg CBD

    2007-5-28 14:50

Johannesburg - Eight people were wounded when gunmen opened fire at the Bree Street taxi rank in central Johannesburg on Monday, police said.

Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini of the SAPS couldn't elaborate on the motive for the shooting, but could confirm there was a shooting between police and unknown men.

Traffic had been badly affected on the street leading to the taxi rank, he said.

Taxis with windows broken by gunfire could be seen.

Metro police spokesperson Inspector Edna Mamonyane said the shooting started soon after metro police arrived at the Metro Mall taxi rank.

    Road blockaded

The metro officers were responding to reports that taxis had blockaded the road.

The taxi drivers appeared to be shooting at each other, she said.

"One officer returned fire because some commuters had been hit.

"Paramedics were fighting to save some of the people's lives," Mamonyane said.

A Sapa photographer who was driving past the rank said: "Shots rang out and I saw two taxis' windows shattered and six people wounded."

A police helicopter and police dogs were on the scene.

The area around the taxi rank was cordoned off.

...the Dow may have crossed 13,000 on a sea of money, but we didn’t find it a remarkable achievement, at least not for those who understand the real value of real money. In 2000, at the top of the stock market, an important juncture the Dow’s price equaled about 43 ounces of gold.

Today it is worth only 19 ounces. In 1929, at the top of the Dow, the Dow equaled 19 ounces of gold.

As you can see from 2000 until now the Dow has really gone nowhere in spite of manipulation and the biggest overall expansion of money and credit in history. The Dow is at best treading water. In euro terms, the dollar net buys 30% less and we believe over the next few years it will buy 30% to 50% less. It buys 65% less silver, 70% less oil, 80% less copper and 90% less uranium.

We can thank Sir Alan Greenspan and the Fed for this tragic result. It could be we are headed for another Weimar Republic that great creation of fiat paper Reichmarks in Germany, which was the result of Germany’s defeat in WWI and the reparations it was forced to pay to the allies, which eventually brought Hitler to power.

The only safe place for now is gold and silver related assets and Swiss franc bonds, with a uranium company or a very special situation thrown in.

    Hier etwas von LMC:

The Market Force indicator (the red line) has fallen back to the lower support line which is the Hard Deck. (see chart)

The gold price pulled back a little more than I predicted coming in with a low of around $653 for the move. The re-test of the lower support line for the Market Force again yields a very low risk entry point for gold. In the bull market to date this lower support line has never been violated and I don’t expect it will be violated this time.

What is fascinating is that my analysis is clearly indicating that the market dynamics favor the bulls at this juncture and that a big upleg is highly probable. With Open Interest currently at an all time high this is tantamount to predicting a commercial signal failure.

Other indicators suggest that this is a distinct possibility. Sentiment is at extremely low levels; the mining stocks can hardly catch a bid and daily volumes have almost dried up.
Even long term gold bulls are bearish in the short term as they expect that the Cartel will pull another rabbit out of the hat at this all time high Open Interest level.

What makes me think that the cartel will lose this battle is that the market has dramatically changed. The physical market is absorbing record levels of gold dishoarding from the ECB, while similar levels of dishoarding cratered the POG by 200/oz just one year ago.

Gold has shrugged off talks of IMF gold sales, something that made weak longs head for the exit in the past. The longs seem very determined. They appear to be a lot less sensitive to price movements, which is characteristic of longs who want to take delivery, which is the Achilles heel of the cartel.

Gold production is shrinking and prominent hedgers are rushing to cover.

I have shown even more detailed analysis to Bill Murphy, that I don’t wish to publish, that suggests even more strongly that we have a different set of buyers on the long side.

This is, in my opinion, the most positive and comprehensive set up for gold that we have ever seen in this bull market.

We should not have to wait too long for this to be resolved. My guess is that we have a very good chance of breaking into all time record territory of $850/oz in the coming weeks to months.

We have bounced off the lower support line of the Market Force Indicator twice in the last few months and these have turned out to be false starts for the next really big upleg. We may get some more false starts but I tend to doubt it because there are too many opportunistic fresh shorts.

    Cheers,

    Adrian Douglas

Ps.

May 17, 2007: Buying Opportunity of the Year.

Geeze, we just can't get past $700 per ounce on Gold, the Golden Bull Market must be dead! Precious Metals investors have all of the conviction of a 2008 Presidential Candidate. I have told everyone who cared to listen that protecting one's financial well-being in the years ahead was not going to be a cakewalk. One can expect and should expect, many bumps in the Yellow Brick Road to this lofty, yet attainable goal of relative financial safety with precious metals investments.

I try not to be too technical in my discussions of the bullion markets, since every black box program out there is looking at the same technical chart patterns, oscillators, and statistical data. But if I am correct, we have been down in the $655 region for gold off of interim highs some 3 times now, and I think we just went through our last, false start higher. Meaning, when the dust settles over the next several weeks or even days, we will spurt ahead like none of this indecisive trading ever happened. This is how markets shake the weak hands out, and get them to either totally capitulate or force them to buy back in at much higher prices after selling in panic toward the recent lows. Just be a long-term investor in this asset class, and these weekly/ monthly squiggles will do nothing to shake your conviction or success in a decade's or two-decade's long bull market in the precious metals.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Should Central Banks manipulate the gold price?

In today's world, perhaps Central Bank intervention to control the gold price may not be counter to the gold investor's interests as the alternative could be a precursor to global economic collapse.

    Author: Lawrence Williams
    Posted: Sunday , 27 May 2007

    LONDON -

"If there is one single element around which civilisations have risen or fallen it is gold. Since the very beginnings of organized society, untold legions of men have toiled for it, fought for it and all too often died for it. Great nations, and even whole civilizations have been known to wither and die for it. Like it or not, gold has occupied a central place in the affairs of man throughout his recorded history and, like it or not, it may yet decide the future of the United States, or even the ultimate destiny of Western civilization itself"

So wrote Donald J. Hoppe in the introduction to his book "How to invest in gold stocks and avoid the pitfalls" back in 1972 - a publication in which many sentiments expressed then may be valid today although of course the whole investment scenario has changed dramatically and some of the good points made in his book at the time are no longer valid.

I was privileged back in the early seventies to have provided some of the figures and ideas on which this book was based as I was then editor of Mining Journal's Quarterly Review of South African Gold Shares which provided information on the great majority of the gold stock investment opportunities at a time when South Africa really dominated world gold production.

Since then, world production patterns have changed, and it now looks like South Africa has not many years ahead of it as the world's largest producer of the metal, and new mine supply is struggling to counteract the fall in production as old mines close or become depleted.

But coming back to Donald Hoppe's statement, a possible lack of increase in new mine supply is dwarfed by the potential impact of the collapse of world currencies - notably the US dollar and those which depend on it - and, as he put it, on ‘Western civilisation itself'. Many gold watchers believe in a ‘conspiracy' by the Central Banks to keep down the gold price - as has been seen recently by the impact of increased ECB sales just as the yellow metal threatened to break back above $700 an ounce again.

If indeed there is a concerted effort by banks to defuse the rise in gold price, it is perhaps not so much an anti-gold move, though, but an attempt to protect currencies and defuse the prospect of a total collapse in the US dollar. Gold investors may see this policy, if it exists, as an unjustifiable intervention in the natural scheme of things but, on the other hand, I don't really think we would want to see a collapse in the dollar with the worldwide financial and political chaos which could ensue.

Does the precious metals market need war or global strife? Neal Ryan of Blanchard & Co. posed this question in a recent research note to clients. His answer to his own question was as follows:

"Short answer, no. In the last six years, gold has nearly tripled and silver and platinum have tripled in price, we've seen one of the largest and longest global economic expansions in history. The reason has been fundamental changes in the market. Less production, more investor demand. Smaller central bank sales, more dehedging by miners. Investors have been looking for diversification, China legalized gold ownership."

"Will war and terrorism and all that other nasty stuff help out precious metals? Of course because of the flight to defensive asset classes, but it's not a necessity for the market to continue appreciating in price."

Ryan's point is that gold investors should not wish for a scenario which could be to the detriment of Western society as a whole. Strife and chaos may be the ultimate in gold price boosters, but in today's world with potential availability of weapons of mass destruction to terrorist organisations, no-one would be safe - not even those sitting at home in the US.

A collapse in the dollar and a corresponding total decimation of the US economy would leave the world rudderless and chaos could ensue.

    Lets hope it doesn't happen.

Gold investors should wish for an orderly rise in the price of gold, rather than a dramatic one. Perhaps Central Bank intervention may help this be achieved. I, personally, do not think that Central Bank activity can significantly depress the gold price long term, but it can mitigate against the kind of dramatic increase which could be the precursor to worldwide financial collapse which would, in reality, be to the benefit of no-one.

    Mahendra am 25. Mai 2007:

    http://mahendraprophecy.com/LatestFlash.asp?Id=293&Page=1

...Here are tips for medium term gold investors:

Ø I recommend aggressively buying gold and silver in the month of August. Therefore keep your cash ready -and many must have been keeping cash as I have been recommending a negative trend in metals for the last two weeks and it occurred. Those who would like to enter at this stage must avoid future contracts but buy position in the call option for December 2007.

Ø Short-term gold investors should simply wait and watch. Once planetary indications reveal a sufficiently strong buying indication, I shall immediately write to you. For the short-term, a bull market is on the way in 2007 where gold will have a sudden rise of 25 percent in five weeks, and I am quite confident that I will give you adequate notice before the start of this period.

Ø There is a very interesting time ahead for metal investors as a sharp rise and correction will bring many opportunities for money making. However, one has to carefully guard against one word; that is being a gold bug. Emotional attachment may prevent one from fully taking advantage and selling at the right time, for instance in 2004 when there was a fall in gold and silver prices in the month of April to June as well as in 2005 and 2006 when sharp corrections came about and gold went from $725 to $540.

This week I see stability in gold prices but the short-term indication from planetary movements is still not very encouraging. One should therefore avoid taking big positions in gold.

Ø On Monday gold will trade sideways but gain in the last hour of New York trading.

Ø On Tuesday gold will trade sideways and within a very narrow trading range but weak day.

Ø Gold will begin to get weak on Wednesday in the New York trading session.

Ø On Thursday gold will remain weak and may gain in the last hour from low of the day,

Ø While Friday it will trade in a narrow range.

Ø On the overall therefore, the trading range for gold will be $654.80 to $664.80.
If prices break either side (especially on the downward side, then one should expect a fall of more than one percent).

    SILVER

This week silver will follow the trend of the gold market except Tuesday and Thursday. On Thursday and Friday, I see silver trading a bit positively than gold. The trading range for silver this week will be $12.55 to $13.05, and in any case it shouldn’t break $12.55, the magic number. This is because astrologically, this is an important figure which could compel silver to fall ten percent or more if broken. We shall however be watching the situation and I will update you accordingly, but at this stage it doesn’t seem likely to fall below $12.55.

    STOCK MARKET

I have been quite wrong on the European markets for the last two months and I therefore don’t want to write any more predictions on the market this week.
What I can say is the same thing; that a sharp correction is coming any time and it could be from Wednesday in the European market.
Last week I mentioned and we got out from hedging position of the USA stock market, and indeed I will be net short in the European market from Monday.

A few months back I recommended that those who don’t want to take risks by naked short position could buy puts for December 2007 as well as September 2007, and many people have confirmed that they did those trades. I am therefore quite sure that whoever will buy puts in European markets will gain handsomely; maybe not in the short-tem but definitely in the medium term.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Markets could trade sideways or powerful hands may try to keep it around this level, but that can only last for this week as I am 100 percent sure about the fall of the market beginning next week.

    Milly

Wenn du genau hinschaust hat John Embry 6.1% in Silver Bullion selbst wenn er Certificates und Bullion schreibt im Portfolio.
