Cream Minerals Begins Drilling Program on Cassiera Property in Sierra Leone
Monday April 11, 1:23 pm ET
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - April 11, 2005) - Cream Minerals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:CMA - News; OTCBB:CRMXF - News; "Cream") announces that drilling has started on the Hima Exclusive Prospecting Licence for diamonds located on the Sewa River in Sierra Leone. Two Banka drills are operating to sample high terrace gravels identified as diamondiferous in earlier work by the National Diamond Mining Company of Sierra Leone and by the Geological Survey of Sierra Leone. Eight holes out of a planned 150 holes have been completed to date with an average depth of 5 meters each. Two gravel layers have been intersected in the Banka holes completed and these gravels will become targets for a bulk sampling programme where continuity can be demonstrated over a large enough area to allow an industrial scale operation. The two gravel horizons confirm the description of the gravel distribution described by the Geological Survey of Sierra Leone.

The water level of the Sewa River has continued to drop since the start of the programme. Several large sand bars have been exposed on the downstream side of the large riffles formed by two strong diabase dykes that cross the river from bank to bank, a distance of approximately 500 meters (1500 feet). Sampling is planned with a detailed Banka Drill programme for possible higher grades of heavy minerals, including diamonds, in these natural traps.
Sierra Leone is currently enjoying an unprecedented mineral exploration boom for diamonds, gold, rutile, bauxite and platinum group elements. Participants include BHP Billiton in joint venture with Mano River Resources, Sierra Leone Diamond Company Ltd. ("SLDC") (which has just completed a reported U.S.$37.3 million flotation on the London Alternative Investment Market - AIM), and the Sierra Rutile Company. The rutile operations of Sierra Rutile were officially opened by the President of Sierra Leone last week on 31st March. This is considered to be a further indication of business confidence in the continuing stability of the country. Part of the financing to complete the reconstruction of the Sierra Rutile operations is reported to have included a 40 million Euro loan from the E.E.C.
Planning is almost complete for ship charter and engagement of geophysical crews to carry out a detailed marine magnetometry survey supervised by Casierra Diamond Corporation over targets on the marine licence where 20 diamonds were recovered from marine alluvial deposits. This area was tested in 1995 and 1996 for a cost of approximately US $4 million. That work included surveys with sub-bottom profiling with boomer and sparker arrays, bathymetry, vertical gradient magnetometry and sampling. The line spacing was relatively coarse at 500 to 250 meter line spacing and more detailed coverage is planned to allow a close definition of targets for sampling later in 2005.
Mr. Benjamin Ainsworth, P.Eng., is Cream's "Qualified Person" in Sierra Leone for the purpose of National Instrument 43-101.

GOLD: With the Dollar breaking out to the downside, it is not surprising that gold has come alive again. However, in order to manage a true breakout, June gold will have to manage a rise above $430.5 and manage to hold above critical support of $428.4. Apparently the gold market is capable of discounting the potential negatives off the IMF gold sale effort and that is mostly because of the consistent declines in the Dollar. It would seem like the US is against the sale but that issue certainly has the ability to limit the gold market, especially in its current marginally bullish setup. The weekly COT report with Options showed the Large Trader to be holding a net long position of 118,016 contracts, which is up 3,247 from the previous report. The Small Speculator position was down 3,675 contracts for a total net long position of 31,301 contracts. Therefore, the net spec and fund long in gold is roughly 149,000 contracts, which is only a moderately overbought condition. With US Trade numbers due out on Tuesday, we suspect that even more Dollar declines are ahead and that could give June gold the chance to rise above the late March consolidation high of $431.4 but with significant overhead resistance coming off the bottom of the early March chart formation around $432.5, the gold market could have a difficult task forging big gains this week. In short, the market has an upward bias but will need some significant from the fundamental front in order to entice broad based buying.
SILVER: The silver market would appear to be poised to rise toward the critical pivot point of $7.25 but like gold, silver also has significant overhead resistance off the bottom of the February and March consolidation pattern. Fortunately silver wasn't overly spec long, as the April 5th Commitment of Traders with Options report showed the Large Trader to be holding a net long position of 35,300 contracts, which is up 1,621 from the previous report. The Small Speculator position was down 1,293 contracts for a total net long position of 23,650 contracts. Therefore, the Spec and fund long position was only 47,000 contracts long and that is an average long for the recent trade. Critical pivot point support comes in this week at $7.112 and thin resistance is seen at $7.225.
METALS TECHNICAL OUTLOOK 4/11/2005
SILVER (MAY) 04/11/2005: The market now above the 60-day moving average suggests the longer-term trend has turned up. Momentum studies are rising from mid-range, which could accelerate a move higher if resistance levels are penetrated. The market now above the 18-day moving average suggests the longer-term trend has turned up. The daily closing price reversal up on the daily chart is somewhat positive. With the close over the 1st swing resistance number, the market is in a moderately positive position. The near-term upside target is at 728.0. The next area of resistance is around 724.0 and 728.0, while 1st support hits today at 709.1 and below there at 698.1.
GOLD (APR) 04/11/2005: Rising from oversold levels, daily momentum studies would support higher prices, especially on a close above resistance. The major trend has turned down with the cross over back below the 18-day moving average. The upside closing price reversal on the daily chart is somewhat bullish. It is a slightly negative indicator that the close was under the swing pivot. The next upside objective is 428.9. The next area of resistance is around 428.1 and 428.9, while 1st support hits today at 425.7 and below there at 424.0.

AngloGold Sees Gold at More Than $500 Oz
Monday April 11, 2:34 am ET
PERTH, Australia (Reuters) - World No. 2 gold miner AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. said it expected gold to soon trade as high as $500 or more per ounce because of a weak U.S. dollar and high jewelry demand, topping a forecast by larger rival Newmont Mining Corp.
Gold, which currently trades for about $425 per ounce, last topped $500 in 1987.
"I believe there is every reason for the gold price to trade in a range of $400-$500 (per ounce) for the foreseeable future," AngloGold Chief Executive Bobby Godsell told the Australian Gold Forum meeting of miners and investment bankers.
"There is the possibility to trade at the top end of that range and even to move modestly outside that top end," Godsell said.
Last week Newmont President Pierre Lassonde predicted the gold price would likely stay in the $425-$475 per ounce range for most of 2005.
South Africa-based AngloGold, majority-owned by Anglo American, mined 6.05 million ounces of gold last year, making it second only to Newmont.
Demand for gold, traditionally regarded as the currency of last resort, was at its strongest in years thanks to a weakened dollar, which encourages gold buying by investors outside the United States, he said.
Even at today's price, gold is regarded as cheap by some when compared to other commodities -- it takes less than nine barrels of oil to buy one ounce of gold versus a long-term average of 17.5 barrels.
There was a risk, though, that gold could come under attack if rising U.S. interest rates further prop up the greenback, Martin Murenbeeld, chief economist at Vancouver-based Dundee Wealth Management Group, told the forum.
"The dollar can always experience a correction," Murenbeeld said.
The greenback's fall is partly owing to concerns in the foreign exchange market that the U.S. would not attract enough foreign investment to finance the widening U.S. trade deficit, which reached a record $617.7 billion last year.
Demand for gold jewelry was also running strong, Godsell noted.
Consumer demand for gold rose 7 percent last year, the first rise in four year, figures from the industry-financed World Gold Council show.
But the outlook for 2005 pointed to weaker growth, however, as times were harder and jewelry purchases less likely.
Will mining survive a Latin American Pope?
By: Dorothy Kosich
Posted: '11-APR-05 05:00' GMT © Mineweb 1997-2004
RENO--(Mineweb.com) Chances are very strong that the successor of the late John Paul II may be a theological conservative from Latin America.
The bad news for mining, however, is that a Latin American Pope may be strongly opposed to multinational corporate mining, including foreign junior explorationists.
"Neoliberalism" is pretty much a swear word in Latin America. The brainchild of Milton Friedman, F. Von Hayec and the Chicago School of Economics, "new" liberalism asserts that the economic crises of the 1970s resulted from excessive government intervention in the economic affairs of society. The economic fate of society is left in the hands of the private sector, which is allegedly free of stringent laws to protest the environment, consumer health and safety standards, or to assure job security.
Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga, 62, archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, was prominently featured in the latest issue of People magazine as one of papal contenders to succeed John Paul II. The theologically-conservative archbishop is multilingual and articulate. A past president of CELAM, the federation of Latin American bishops conference, Rodriguez has declared in the past that "neoliberal capitalism carries injustice and inequity in its genetic code."
As a young man, he studied mathematics, physics and natural sciences, and earned degrees in theology and clinical psychology. Although he comes from a small nation, Rodriguez Maradiaga's presidency of CELAM could improve his papal prospects.
Rodriguez Maradiaga has also espoused environmental causes, including leading anti-mining protest marches since 2002. Last month, he publicly criticized mining concessions which cover almost one-third of Honduras. "The indiscriminate exploitation of our mines and forests withy no ethical commitment is placing at risk the very purpose of creation--human life and future generations," he declared.
Bishops like Rodriguez Maradiaga espouse the "theology of the excluded," which views the Roman church's role as overcoming the alleged marginalization of Latin America's poor by the economic policies of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. A passionate advocate of debt relief, Rodriguez Maradiaga has been a strong opponent of Glamis Gold and its operations in Honduras. Interestingly, Glamis has been lauded by the IMF for its socially-progressive programs in Honduras.
Another prominent Latin American candidate is Brazilian Cardinal Claudio Hummes, 70, is a conservative on church doctrine and a social progressive. He earned degrees in philosophy and taught philosophy at seminaries and a Catholic university.
Hummes is considered a friend of the labor movement and believes the globalized market economy is responsible for the "misery and poverty affecting millions around the world." He asserted that the market economy has "reinvented poverty in many countries."
Brazil is the world's most-populous Roman Catholic nation. The Brazilian Catholic Church has been historically involved in mining issues including opposing the privatization of CVRD. The church also helped organize NGO campaigns against bauxite mining and the production of aluminum by multinational corporations in the 1990s.
Other names being mentioned as possible candidates for Pope include Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglia, 68, archbishop of Buenos Aires. The Catholic Church has formed Equipo Nacional de Pastoral Aborigen, which is fighting for aboriginal peoples to obtain title on the lands on which they lived for centuries. Some of these peoples have formed opposition groups to fight proposed gold mining projects in the area.
Columbia Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyes, prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Clergy, is another possible candidate along with Cardinal Norberto Rivera, 63, of Mexico City.
Nachfrage in Asien zieht an

Shandong, Kingdom of GoldKen Reser
Apr 8, 2005
'Confucius' the great sage once said: "I was not born knowledgeable, I am devoted to antiquity and am quick to seek knowledge."
Located in China's NE and bordering the coast, the Shandong Province is a land steeped in history of Gold Mines, Diamonds, Sapphire, Oil, Iron, Coal & many other minerals. Shandong is the birthplace and eternal resting place of the great philosopher 'Confucius' and a land of much splendor in the shadow of Mt Tai with the fertile delta of the Yellow River embracing its rich agriculture. For hundreds of years the Chinese have dubbed Shandong the Kingdom of Gold. With respect to the eternal yellow metal, Shandong Province produces 26% of China's annual gold production and with new exploration at depth may become one of the world's major gold provinces. (China mined over 212 tons of gold in 2004) (64.5 tons in Shandong Province alone in 2004).
Situated on the confluence of the North China and the Yangtze continental blocks, Shandong is blessed with unique geological structures rich in mineral resources being diversified in each of its several tectonic units. Only now in our time are the depths of these tectonic structures beginning to be tested.
'Confucius' once said: "If work halts, as when it does only one basketful of earth short of completing a mound, it would be I who halt it. If work advances, as when it does with one basketful of earth poured in leveling the ground, it would be I who make it proceed."
Since its acceptance into the WTO, China has hastened to modernize mining laws (White Paper) in order to draw investment and mining expertise from the west. Historically and even today most gold mines are nothing but shallow open pit operations, high-grading the easy low value surface gold. In order to maximize these known gold showings the government has encouraged foreigners to come and joint venture with existing mines, undertake new exploration and form new working relationships beneficial to local communities and infrastructure. One mine producing on a current small scale may in future with modern equipment and technology become another of the world's larger gold deposits and this is the intent of Chinese wisdom in the deregulation and simplification of mining laws and permits.
Goldfields C.E.O. Ian Cockerill in 2003 called China the World's next major gold mining province. He also believes in the potential of major gold finds in the deep complex geological mineral structures of Shandong province and has a JV with Sino Gold of Australia in that area. Goldrea Resources Corp is currently very active in Rushan, Shandong Province in a JV with Shandong Daye Mining Co. Other mining companies from Canada are actively working in China such as Placer Dome, APAC Minerals, SW Resources, Energold, Pacific Minerals, Minco Mining & Metals, Ivanhoe Mines, TVI Pacific & Alcan among others.
One very salient aspect of Chinese reasoning other than gaining western expertise to maximize gold mining potential in China is the fact that mining companies invest equity in joint venture companies, they invest in local infrastructure, they pay taxes and they provide employment at a local level. In China as in all Asian nations the people are most industrious and hard working. Unlike here in the west where we look to our employer for days off for leisure, they in turn look to their employer for extra days and hours of work. When the husband brings home a paycheck for a period of time, soon his wife or sons have a family business to complement their income. Now I do not know if it was Confucius or not who said: "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" but it applies to the forward thinking of China's new approach to JV mining with our established mine exploration companies of the west.
In a paper on Mining in China which Placer Dome created they stated the following.
(Excerpt)
Western Business Approach.
Do business
Become friends
Eastern Business Approach.
Become friends
Do business
In China my task is to have friends. It is my friend's task to bring me the project I need.
In China you will find your best friend and your worst enemy, your task is to make sure they are not the same person.
In China everything is possible or impossible, it is up to you. (end of excerpt)
Current large mines in China produce 30,000 to 70,000 oz of gold p/yr. They want mines that produce 300,000 to 400,000 oz p/yr. With modern mining exploration practices and extensive drill testing they will in all probability have a few in due course. From the sheer vastness of China's boundaries, to the hard working industriousness of its people, and the immeasurable wealth of untapped minerals, China is exactly the place for the world's next great gold discoveries to be made.
So, if from my writing you have gained some insight into the potential and security of foreign mining companies venturing into the land of the Golden Dragon and more specifically Shandong Province 'The Kingdom of Gold' then you will realize why China has in recent months and years revised over 2500 Mining Laws and regulations, and why China is a very big part of our gold mining future.
'Confucius' also said: "When three men walk together, there is always something I can learn. Choose to follow what is good in them and correct what is not good."

American senator Russell Feingold has launched a scathing attack on President Thabo Mbeki in the US Congress. He has accused Mbeki of helping President Robert Mugabe's regime in its quest to cling to power at all costs at the expense of human rights.
The senator described the South African leader's act of sweeping rights abuses in Zimbabwe "under the rug" and helping Mugabe remain in power as "one of the greatest disappointments of all".
Feingold stopped short of calling on the Bush administration to review its relations with South Africa in an address to Congress this week.
His and senator John McCain's private correspondence to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
has prompted the Bush administration to take an even tougher stance on Zimbabwe.
