UPDATE 3-Goldcorp hikes Penasquito output and cost outlook
(Adds comments, updates shares; in U.S. dollars unless noted)
By Cameron French
TORONTO, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Goldcorp Inc (G.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) raised the estimated output for its Penasquito mine in Mexico by 30 percent on Monday, but also said capital costs for the project would be nearly 70 percent higher than previously expected.
Canada's second-biggest gold producer said it now plans to spend $1.49 billion, which includes about $450 million spent to date, up from a June 2006 estimate of $882 million.
Sustaining capital costs are seen at $561 million, up from the 2006 estimate of $327 million.
Mill throughput will rise to 130,000 tonnes per day from 100,000, and mine life has been extended to 19 years from 17, Goldcorp said.
The announcement comes amid soaring commodity prices, but also rising construction and production expenses that have prompted some miners to sharply raise project cost forecasts.
Analyst Richard Gray of Blackmont Securities left his 12-month price target for Goldcorp at C$40, saying in a research note the cost estimate was within the $1.3 billion to $1.5 billion range he had expected.
"The impact of the higher throughput just barely offsets the higher capital and operating costs," he said.
The company's shares rose 20 Canadian cents to C$32.51 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Speaking at a securities conference in Montreal, Goldcorp chief executive Kevin McArthur said cost inflation since the previous feasibility study last year has been about 20 percent.
However, he admitted to being taken a bit off guard by the sharp rise in capital costs.
"That certainly came as a bit of a surprise to us. But when you look at the numbers and how that project has grown and the improvements that we've brought to the project and the economics that result from it, I think it's well under control," he said.
The company expects an updated feasibility study from its 40 percent-owned Pueblo Viejo project in the Dominican Republic by February 2008.
Barrick Gold (ABX.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) owns 60 percent of Pueblo Viejo.
HIGHER PRODUCTION
Penasquito is now expected to produce an average of 400,000 ounces of gold a year, up from 387,000 ounces; 31 million ounces of silver, up from 23 million ounces; and 189,000 tonnes of zinc, up from 137,000 tonnes.
Lead production is seen at 97,000 tonnes, up from 71,000 tonnes.
Goldcorp, which acquired the property last year with its acquisition of Glamis Gold, boosted Penasquito's gold reserve estimates by 31 percent in June and raised silver reserves by 50 percent.
Cash costs per ounce of gold should be $118, when factoring in lead production as a byproduct. This is down from a previous estimate of $125 an ounce, Goldcorp said.
Production is expected to begin late next year, with milling to begin in 2009.

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(MARKET WIRE)--Nov 26, 2007 -- Exeter Resource Corporation (CDNX:XRC.V - News)(AMEX:XRA - News)(Frankfurt:EXB.F - News) - ("Exeter" or the "Company") reports that step-out drill hole MRC 175 has discovered a new high-grade gold-silver zone at Cerro Moro, Argentina. The new zone is located along strike from mineralization previously reported on the Escondida Vein. Assays from additional drilling in the immediate vicinity of MRC 175 are yet to be received, but visually, some of those holes appear to have intersected sulphides characteristic of hosting the high-grade gold-silver mineralization encountered at Escondida.
The new zone represents the first of more than 20 targets being tested in a "scout" drilling program designed to locate new zones of ore grade mineralization under shallow, but extensive overburden. The results from MRC 175 are the first assays to be released from +5,000 metres of drilling recently completed on the property.
Assays from MRC175, a reverse circulation percussion drill hole sited 430 metres north-west along strike from the known mineralized Escondida vein system, include the following significant results:
- 6.0 metres ("m") (19.7 feet) at 11.5 grams per tonne ("g/t") gold (0.33 oz/ton) from a down hole depth of 68.0 m (223.1 feet); including
- 2.0 m (6.6 feet) at 31.1 g/t gold (0.90 oz/ton) from a down hole depth of 71.0 m (233.0 feet).
Note: Silver assay results for MRC 175 are awaited and will be released when received.
Exeter's Chief Geologist Glen Van Kerkvoort commented: "The vein textures evident in MRC175, coupled with widening intercepts encountered as we drill deeper into this new zone, suggest that we have tapped into the top of a blind mineralized body with the entire zone preserved below. The results reported above do not include the silver assays which are typically very significant.
"The discovery of this new zone certainly demonstrates the potential of the Escondida structure to host mineralization to the northwest of previously reported ore grade mineralization. Significantly, we have yet to drill test the structure along the southeast extension, where the structure appears to continue for another 1.6 kilometres. This three-kilometre long structure has the potential for multiple high grade gold-silver zones.
"The large Cerro Moro epithermal system is estimated to be some 100 square kilometres (39 square miles) in size. Fortunately, we have now refined our geological and geophysical interpretation of the system to an extent that we are very optimistic that a number of the more than 20 targets yet to be drilled will prove to be ore bearing.
"It is very fulfilling indeed for our exploration geologists to have the opportunity to define their careers by participating in the success of a project such as Cerro Moro."
Assay results from some 60 drill holes completed since early August are awaited. Two drill rigs are continuing the scout drilling program with a third rig testing expansions to the known high grade zones at Escondida, Loma Escondida and Esperanza.

hab nur was von Seymour Pierce (Nominated Adviser and Broker to Caledonia in the United Kingdom) gefunden:
Caledonia Mining downgraded to "hold"
Tuesday, March 20, 2007 3:59:57 AM ET
NEW YORK, March 20 (newratings.com) - Analyst Charles Kernot of Seymour Pierce downgrades Caledonia Mining Corporation (ticker: CALVF) to "hold."
In a research note published this morning, the analyst mentions that the downgrade in rating follows the release of a NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate, which is marginally dissimilar from the resource estimate calculated 18 months back, for the Nama project in northern Zambia. The analyst expresses his concern regarding the lack of progress at the project. Caledonia Mining needs to take significant efforts, before it could commercialize the deposit, Seymour Pierce adds.

Also: Die Aktien wegpacken und ggf. aufstocken. Aber noch nicht jetzt, werde abwarten, ob sich die Aktien den Augusttiefs annähern.Meine Aktien in der Übersicht: Kürzel (Buchgewinn/-verlust seit Kauf), akt. Kurs., Augusttiefstkurs

Kommentar zum Deal (Canaccord)
Natural gas prices are in the toilet, the Canadian dollar
is way high and now with the higher Alberta Royalties, one
wonders if there is any reason to be following Canadianbased
oil and gas stocks. Particularly now, that one of the
most exciting plays in the Prairies (the Bakkens) seems to
be all taken over by one major—Petrobank Energy. They announced
a takeover of Peerless Energy on this past Friday
and for a price that was almost where it was trading at.
We followed the Bakken Trend and mentioned it several
times mainly because we were players in the Pilot Energy
story. Not everyone is excited about the Peerless deal
though, and one of the most articulate is probably Brian
Kristjansen of Genuity Capital who writes, “1% Premium?
Peerless Board lets down shareholders with premature
sale to Petrobank.”
In his look at the deal, Kristjansen suggests, “Petrobank gets a bargain” and suggests that Peerless is selling out at
$78,588 per flowing BOE/d. He suggests that “net of land
value, the deal looks even worse as Peerless has over
100,000 net undeveloped acres of land, of which at least
11,520 is prospective for the Bakken.”
He also points out that “considering the on-tap production,
it worsens—Peerless has six wells awaiting completion
and two still drilling, and given recent activity, would
have likely meant 5000 BOE/d of corporate production in
one month’s time.”
Kristjansen suggests that “based on our valuation of the
deal, we believe that a competing offer is likely and that
shareholders should not be tendering their shares at this
time.”Grüße
