In DENVER story "Crystallex unlikely to mine Las Cristinas -analysts," please read in eighth paragraph, " ... the company estimates has reserves of 12.5 million ounces of gold, calculated at a cash cost of $221/oz.," instead of "... the company estimates has reserves of 12.5 million ounces of gold, calculated at a cash cost of $350/oz." (Changes cash cost).
But the project was looking dubious for Crystallex, the analysts ?(said, after the action last week by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez fanned fears about growing political risk for mining companies.
"I think they (Crystallex) are done," said one well-known analyst who requested anonymity. ![]()
"Chavez says they won't mine, and Crystallex says they will. Who are you going to believe?", he said on the sidelines of the conference.
Another analyst
also doubted that Crystallex can ever mine the site that the company estimates has reserves of 12.5 million ounces of gold, calculated at a cash cost of $221/oz.
"I think
they are in trouble. Chavez's supporters are already mining in the area informally. They have been for years," he said.
"India
and China have a better chance of mining there because they have been cutting deals to buy oil from Venezuela," he added.
