Das wisssen die meisten hier, der ehemalige Chef von ""Interpol"" und Polizeipresident Selebi

Zim inflation at record 26 000%

Harare - Zimbabwe's inflation jumped to a new record 26,470.8 percent in November, while the economy was estimated to have contracted by about 6% in 2007, central bank governor Gideon Gono said on Thursday.
He also announced a hike in interest rates to 1 200% from 975%.
"The continued threat of high inflation warrants that interest rates be periodically realigned to discourage speculative borrowing and inflationary credit expansion," Gono said in a statement.

One man dies in Jhb pub robbery

An armed robbery at a Johannesburg pub on Saturday at midnight ended in tragedy when two patrons took on the robbers, hitting one over the head with a bar stool.
Fortunately, the bar was half-empty with accounts indicating about 20 customers enjoying drinks at the time.

One man was killed after wrestling with the robber and another was shot in the legs after trying to help by hitting the gunman over the head with a bar stool.
According to sources who were at the restaurant, four armed robbers held up the popular Keg and Brewer at the Rock Cottage Shopping centre in Honeydew just after midnight on Saturday.
'At least four robbers'
While the accounts differ about the number of robbers involved, Dewald Cillie who was having a drink with friends at the time said he saw at least four robbers.
"Two stood at the door and another two came inside," said another patron who wished to remain anonymous.
The robbers stormed in, according to the patron, and told everyone to get down. "Everything was calm until one of the patrons decided he wanted to take on these guys," said Cillie.
The man wrestled the robber to the ground and had him pinned down when the second robber came from behind and tried to shoot him.
"He cocked his gun and pulled the trigger about three times and the fourth time the shot went off," said Cillie.
The man was shot in his shoulder. "He was hit in such a way that the bullet went down towards his heart," police spokesperson, Inspector Karen Jacobs told News24.
He died soon after.
Another patron, trying to help the man on the floor swung a bar stool at the gunman and hit him over the head, knocking him down.
Regained his feet
"Once that happened the first robber regained his feet again and he fired a shot at the guy with the bar stool," said Cillie.
The man, 32, was shot in his legs, according to police. He was in a serious condition but was reported to be stable on Monday afternoon.
"It was quick but it feels like an hour or two," said one patron. "You just lie there and you can't look up and you hear shots going off around you."
Police said nothing had been reported stolen but Cillie said he spoke to someone whose car keys, phone and wallet was taken.
Another patron said the robbers took a waitress's moonbag with about R1 000 in it.
The Keg and Brewer management confirmed that the robbery and shooting took place but would not offer any comment.
A patron said police and ambulance arrived quickly.
Police are investigating a case of murder and armed robbery. "No arrests have been made yet," said Jacobs......wie ueblich..:D

Johannesburg - Foreigners who are fleeing from Chad's war zone to Lagos, Nigeria, via Cameroon could be aboard a South African plane which has been reported as stolen to Randburg police.
The King Air 200 was used, among other things, to fly Hollywood star George Clooney from Chad to Darfur.

- The United States said on Thursday it had issued visa restrictions on 10 leading Kenyan politicians, including government party members and opposition leaders, because they had been involved in or incited violence since the disputed December 27 presidential election.
"We don't give visas to criminals," embassy spokesperson TJ Dowling said. "Inciting violence is a criminal act."
Dowling declined to give names, but said parliamentarians from President Mwai Kibaki's governing party and the main opposition Orange Democratic Movement, led by Raila Odinga, were informed in letters that they would not be allowed into the United States.
Party members could not immediately be reached for comment.
300 000 people homeless
The announcement came as pressure mounted on talks, mediated by former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, to break the political impasse and end post-election violence that had killed more than 1 000 people and made 300 000 homeless.
The UN Security Council on Wednesday deplored the violence and urged political leaders to resolve the crisis "through dialogue, negotiation and compromise".
The council statement issued in New York expressed concern at the "dire humanitarian situation" in the country and gave strong backing to the Annan-led talks that began on January 29.
A UN fact-finding mission arrived in Kenya on Wednesday to assess allegations of grave human rights violations during the fighting, which in many cases turned into ethnic clashes.
The three-week mission - sent by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour - would gather information from the government and the opposition, along with victims and witnesses. The findings would be made public.
December election 'rigged'
Arbour said: "Truth and accountability are of critical importance in putting an end to the violence and preventing future human rights violations."
The December election, which foreign and local observers said was rigged, returned President Mwai Kibaki to power for a second five-year term after Odinga's lead evaporated overnight.
Violence had continued in western Kenya, scene of some of the worst post-election clashes.
Police said they fired to disperse hundreds of residents who had barricaded the gates of the police station in Litein, 235km west of Nairobi, on Tuesday. Two teachers were killed.
In a forest nearby, officers on Wednesday retrieved 18 bodies with gunshot and machete wounds. They had been killed in four days of clashes between rival gangs, which police stopped by throwing grenades.
The violence had been shockingly brutal in a country once considered among the most stable in Africa, with fighters using crude weapons such as machetes and bows and poisoned arrows.

Johannesburg - South Africans should not panic about the current problems plaguing the country, President Thabo Mbeki said on Thursday.

Mbeki told the SABC that the country should not panic about the current power cuts and other problems, saying "we cannot pretend that the country does not have problems" - yet SA had progressed well for the past 13 years after apartheid governance.
"There are many concerns that people feel quite legitimate about, the situation of electricity and other things. Do not panic, we are ready as a country to maintain a steady pace to address all the problems and challenges in a very determined manner."

Nur einer von vielen Touristen die beraubt werden, vor ein paar Tagen wurde hier wiedermal ein Hollaender am Tafelberg ausgeraubt,das ist hier schon normal geworden.

Johannesburg - Two British tourists, one Namibian and five South Africans were robbed at a holiday resort in Port St Johns on Thursday, Eastern Cape police said.
Superintendent Mzukisi Fatyela said the eight holiday makers were confronted by four armed men at the Mpande Holiday Resort.
"The robbers took jewellery, money and cellphones and then fled in the owner's Land Cruiser."
"One man was arrested after police received information from residents of Nyandi," he said.
No one was harmed and the Land Cruiser was recovered.
The man was expected to appear in the Port St Johns Magistrate's Court soon, police said.
Police were investigating cases of armed robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle.
More arrests were expected soon, Fatyela said.
"The holiday makers have all left the resort and the British tourists drove to Port Elizabeth." he said.

Ich habe das Gefühl, dass SA nur von der Substanz lebt, wie einst die DDR.
Das funktioniert nur eine Reihe von Jahren bis zum Zusammenbruch.

Direkt nach dem Ende der Apartheid haben sich die Schwarzen, die die Posten
der Buren übernommen haben, erst einmal das Gehalt verdoppelt ohne dass
dafür ein Mehrwert geschaffen wurde.

Wie überall in Afrika, gehen die von westlichen Ländern finanzierten und
eingepflanzten Industrien deshalb kaputt, weil es kein gewachsenes
Know-how gibt, auch nur die von anderen installierten Maschinen zu warten.

Weil man nicht in der Lage oder zu bequem ist, einen Dichtring oder ein
Zahnrad im Ausland zu bestellen und zu ersetzen, gehen ganze Industrien
kaputt.

Das dürfte sich so auch bei den Stromversorgern abspielen. Die Motoren,
Generatoren und Transformatoren werden wahrscheinlich ungewartet in
ihr Ende getrieben. Ohne westliches Know-how läuft da nichts mehr.
Schade um das schön Land.

Als ich, direkt nach Ende der Apartheid, dort einen längeren Urlaub ver-
bracht habe, war es für Touristen schon sehr gefährlich, vom Wege
abzukommen, musste man sich abends schon in großen Hotels auf-
halten. Einmal rannte ein junger weißer Mann mit gezogener Pistole auf
mich und meine Frau zu und dann - Gott sei Dank - an uns vorbei zu
irgend einem Tatort eines noch fortdauernden Überfalls, wie man uns
nachher aufklärte. Das war die Tagesordnung.

Die BILD wäre dort unten eine harmlose Schülerzeitung. Ich habe jeden
Tag die örtliche Presse gelesen, aus der täglich das Blut von durschnittlich
50 Toten floss, erwachsene Schwarze mit Zauber und Wudoo um ihr
Geld gebracht wurden.

Die Korruption wird auch dieses afrikanische Land in die Krise treiben.

Ich habe meine Zweifel, ob die WM erfolgreich ausgetragen werden kann.

Abgesehen davon das Mbeki sagte keine Panik wegen Strom, er sagte auch gewoehnt euch dran es gibt weniger strom und die kosten steigen nun um 40% in eurer Stromrechnug da wir neue Karftwerke bauen muessen.
Klartext, die weissen zahlen an erster stelle, denn der rest in den Blechhuetten bezahlen nichts weil sie auch nichts haben, gleichzeitig power cuts.... more crime and unemployment, etc.
