    Jo, steht sogar drüber.


    Mir fällt auf das nationale/konserative Medien/Personen sich eher dem Thema Gold widmen als Linke. Das fängt beim Focus an und hört bei Hohmann/Hackemesser/Bandulet auf. Auch in Lips Buch gibt es Äusserungen die auf eine konserative Gesinnung schliessen lässt. Gibt es denn keine Sozis in der deutschen proGoldszene?

    Ernst Welteke, The Bundesbank Chief Now Under Investigation, Was No Friend Of Gold.


    Minews has never been a believer in the conspiracy theory, but a recent event pushed the cynical journo a little further in that direction. It arose from a picture in the business news section of the Daily Telegraph which showed an old boy looking a bit like Bob Hope dancing with a lady with more than a passing resemblance to Ava Gardner. If that is a bit passé for some readers just think old man, round face, glasses, not much hair dancing with South American type beauty in 40s, long dark hair, flashing eyes. The photo was entitled ‘Quick step: Ernst Welteke issues a statement of regret over his stay in Berlin with wife Bettina.’


    The name Ernst Welteke rang a bell. Head of Germany’s central bank, the Bundesbank, but these grey men from the banking world do not normally feature on Minesite. Take a trawl back through the files and his name jumps off the page. Here is an extract from a piece published on 26 February 2002 entitled “Germans and Japanese in Tug Of War over Gold”.


    ‘Assuming that there are no subtle nuances in the translation, what Ernst Welteke the president of the Bundesbank in Germany actually said last week was,

    “ We have significant gold reserves in the Bundesbank, and of course we are happy if the gold price rises. That shows you should not sell gold at the wrong time. At the moment there is an agreement between the central banks limiting the price of gold. That is sensible, since if we all sold central bank gold the price would plummet. That would not be sensible. But I could imagine that we might slowly sell some of this gold and reinvest in assets that pay interest. We should not sell the gold reserves to pay off federal debt or finance new spending. At best we should use the interest to reduce the debt.”


    Who jogged his elbow to make this innocuous, but somewhat Teutonic remark is anyone’s guess. It is a strange coincidence that he made it, à propos de rien (sorry about the French), just when gold was powering through the US$300/oz mark. Maybe someone at the US Treasury or the ECB gave him a nudge. “ It would be a disaster, would it not, if investors saw through paper currencies for that they are – just a myriad of IOUs from ephemeral governments. Put a bit of pressure on gold, Ernst.”


    Despite the fact that the German central bank cannot sell gold in any quantity until 2004 under the Washington Accord, it had the desired effect and gold came back to the low US$290s/oz. The Japanese must have been delighted as they have lost faith in their banking system as well as in Mr Koizumi's ability to reform it and are buying gold like crazy.’


    If memory serves, old Ernst popped out of his box quite frequently at that time to give veiled threats about Germany selling hefty amounts of gold whenever the bullion price rose.


    Now, of course, as a result of the 2nd Washington Agreement on Central Bank Gold Sales, such threats are toothless so he is of no further use to any banks who might wish to see the gold price lower. Maybe that is why someone has dropped the old boy in the proverbial. He is now facing inquiries by the Bundesbank’s own board as well as State prosecutors into an all expenses –paid stay with his lovely wife, their three year old son, and his 25 year old elder son plus girl friend in two suites in the Adlon Hotel in Berlin in January 2002. The Adlon Hotel, it should be explained, is one of the most fashionable and expensive hotels and the bill came to Euros 7,661. Now that is not a scam on a major scale, but it is quite a coincidence that he had his free family holiday just a few weeks before Minews suggested he might be knocking the gold price. And that was not an isolated incident as he featured with similar comments on gold several times over the ensuing months.


    It was Der Spiegel magazine that broke the story and the German newspapers have been lapping it up. Digging deeper they have discovered that the bill was actually picked up by Dresdner Bank. As soon as Der Spiegel broke the story Ernst apparently paid back half the money and the Bundebank is paying back the other half on the basis that he was partly on official business. The question that the investigators will be asking is why did Dresdner pay the bill. It is doubtless a complete coincidence that the head of Germany’s central bank was knocking the gold price at the time of his jolly at the Adlon, but it might be worth the investigators’ time to take a look at Dresdner’s position in the gold derivatives market just to make sure the bank was feeling no pain.


    It has to be said on Ernst’s behalf that he put up his hand up straightaway and did not indulge in any rubbish about swords of truth and shields of honesty like Jonathan Aitken when caught over a hotel bill in Paris. He is now on indefinite leave while the other members of the Bundesbank board and the Frankfurt state prosecutor carry out their investigation.. Maybe they should monitor all statements made publicly by Ernst about gold and then check for any holidays taken at about the same time.

    Wieso ist es für Dich erfreulich, wenn sich auch Linke für das Gold interessieren? ?(
    Du solltest mal den Aufsatz von Greenspan über den Goldstandard lesen (hast Du vielleicht schon gemacht). Darin siehst Du, wieso Linke meist nichts vom Goldstandard halten.
    Linke lieben es, Geld auszugeben, welches nicht ihnen gehört (d.h. Schulden zu machen). Im Fiat-Money-System können sie dann die Schulden weginflationieren - effektiv ein sehr effizienter Umverteilungsapparat, den die Sparer finanzieren.


    Dass sich nicht nur die Linken diesen Mechanismus zunutze gemacht haben, sondern auch andere Politiker heutzutage gerne damit spielen, sieht man, wenn man über den grossen Teich schaut. Da werden für kontraproduktive Kriege und sinnlose big brother-Massnahmen Schulden gemacht, welche dann wohl ebenfalls weginflationiert werden sollen.
    Das ändert aber nichts daran, dass Gold prinzipiell allen linken Umverteilungszielen im Wege steht. Mit Gold können sich Sparer vor solchen Umverteilungsmechanismen bis zu einem gewissen Grade schützen; deswegen ist klar, dass die Linken i.a. keine Freude am Gold haben.

    Ich finde es deshalb erfreulich, weil man das Feld nicht den Nationalisten überlassen darf. Diese schweren Zeiten sind ein fruchtbarer Boden für rechte Tendenzen. Das die Marktwirtschaft auf dem sozialen und ökologischem Auge blind ist verinnerlichen Gewerkschaftler, Sozis und Globalisierungkritiker irgendwie besser.

    Das habe ich schon mal gehört. Die Sozis haben die Karre vor die Wand gefahren und der Kohl holt uns wieder raus. Komisch das die Schukldenberge grösser statt kleiner geworden sind.
    Wenn du Linke durch Politiker ersetzt stimme ich dem gerne zu.

    Als erstes Klarstellung möchte hier keine rechten Grundgedanken oder Verfasser hochspielen !
    Außerdem suche ich nach weiteren Artikeln oder sonstiges das hier noch nicht aufgezeigt wurde !

    Ich weiß zwar sehr wohl, was Du mit "weil man das Feld nicht den Nationalisten überlassen darf" meinst. Trotzdem möchte ich doch eines klarstellen: Der Begriff "Nationalismus" ist m.E. vom Ursprung her positiv zu verstehen, denn es handelt sich um einen gesunden und nicht übertriebenen Patriotismus.


    Mir ist klar, dass dieser gesunde Patriotismus heute wohl kaum noch existiert. Wäre dies so, dann hätte "Nationalismus" heutzutage nicht diesen negativen Beigeschmack.
    Genau hier liegt das Problem: Es wäre für die westlichen Gesellschaften sehr positiv, wenn Patrioten an der Regierungsmacht wären - denn dann würden die Politiker eine patriotische Politik betreiben, also eine Politik im Sinne der Bevölkerung. Dann würde es m.E. so etwas wie das aktuelle Papiergeld-Lügensystem nicht geben, denn eine patriotische Politik würde es nicht zulassen, dass die Bevölkerung um ihre hart erarbeiteten Ersparnisse, Renten usw. betrogen wird.


    Diese Bedeutung des Begriffes "Nationalismus" sollte man sich zwecks Verstehen der politischen Vorgänge stets vor Augen halten.

    Genau das befürchte ich: Das Forum wird von Lemmingen übernommen, die mit Dumm-Postings alles zumüllen. In diesem Fall würden sich die "guten" Mitglieder wohl schnell von diesem Forum verabschieden.


    Daher der Aufruf an alle: Bitte NICHT im WO-Forum auf die goldseiten hinweisen!! (Man muss auch mal egoistisch sein können.)
