Choir robbers hit a low note

    2007-9-19 23:05

Johannesburg - The sweet strains of devotional music were rudely interrupted by five robbers, who robbed the choir members of an East Rand church on Tuesday night.

Captain Fenzangakhana Mohale said five men with small firearms struck at the Lillianton congregation of the New Apostolic Church in Boksburg.

Bishop Edward Kieswetter said the men entered the church vestry at about 20:00 and stopped the choir practice.

"The men were forced to lie down and were frisked. The women were not searched, but their jewellery was looted. Various purses and cellphones were stolen."

Kieswetter said the choirmaster Paul Keller and a lay preacher Johan Oelofse, were pistol-whipped on their heads.

A choir member who did not want to be named, said the men marched down the aisle cocking their guns in single file.

She said the choirmaster, who saw the men before the rest did, suddenly dropped his hands and asked everyone just to remain calm.

"We were terribly traumatised", the choir member said.

But that doesn't mean choir members are now too afraid to sing together.

"Nobody's going to stop the Lord's work. The police and the neighbourhood watch are going to patrol during choir practice and we'll continue as usual," she said.

    Dead N1 crash victims robbed

    2007-9-19 23:06

Colesberg - For 10 years, the Eastern Cape's wheelchair basketball team couldn't afford to take part in the national championships.

On Tuesday night, while on their way to fulfil their dream, fate struck a cruel blow when three of the players were killed in an accident while they were en route to the championship in Bloemfontein.

Deonette Olivier, 28, of Port Elizabeth and Sinlindile Vuliwe of East London died in the crash, while Dirk Brand, 47, also of Port Elizabeth, died on the way to hospital.

The team had left Port Elizabeth on Tuesday morning. By 15:55 they were about 1km from Colesberg.

Close to the spot where the N9 from the Eastern Cape merges with the N1 between Cape Town and Johannesburg, their minibus collided with a truck heading in the direction of Cape Town.

    Stopped at intersection

Apparently the team's driver Johan Scholtz stopped at the stop-sign. When he saw no vehicles approaching, he pulled off.

Shortly afterwards a truck smashed into the side of the minibus.

Scholtz was still in shock on Wednesday. He described the intersection where the routes merge as a real "death trap".

The impact sent some of the passengers, including Olivier, flying through the windows. One of the truck's trailers apparently pulverised her.

Emergency workers rushed the six other passengers to the hospital at Colesberg.

Iwan Olivier, Deonette's seven-year-old son, was transferred to the ICU of Rosepark Hospital in Bloemfontein with bleeding on the brain and lung problems.

Ayanda Thembiso of East London was transferred to Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein while Thulani Spoyo and Fundisile Sochan were taken to a hospital in Kimberley.

Scholtz and Siseko Mfanana suffered light injuries and were discharged on Wednesday.

    Bystanders robbed crash victims

While emergency workers were tending to the injured, bystanders apparently robbed them blind. Cellphones and wallets vanished into thin air. 8o

Olivier's purse, with all the funds for the trip, was found empty about 100m from the accident site.

Both the Kombi and the wheelchairs that were being transported on top of the trailer were written off.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

    GO GATA!

Two points to slam home today (written before the Comex opening)…

1, Gold rocketed after the Fed announcement and then was held like in a vice around $723 for the rest of yesterday afternoon, unlike the DOW which also rocketed higher, but made new high after new high. This is vintage Gold Cartel again. They realized they HAD to let gold rally some, but not so much to really set off too many bells and whistles. The most watched inflation barometer of all had to be up, yet kept subdued.

Now that the euphoria over the rate cut will subside a bit, the market managers will be working overtime to prevent the DOW from correcting too much right away and keeping the price of gold as contained as possible. We might be aggravated for a bit. However, The Gold Cartel is doomed. They are facing the PERFECT STORM for all the reasons presented in this column for many months.

*Point 2 is another one discussed here for many months and is EXTREMELY bullish … and this is the incredibly poor sentiment picture. Gold hits a 28-year high and incredibly few people are paying attention, or are on board. This is reflected in the abysmal Café Sentiment Indicator and by the horrendous action of the shares of the smaller gold/silver companies.

Common sense analysis, with this lack of bullishness, tells us the gold move has a LONG way to go before we get a serious correction. When we begin to see excessive EXUBERANCE, then we have to start being cautious.

It is the strangest thing. Yet, the evidence of this strange market phenomenon is everywhere…

When the upside break comes – and it may be here - we may be in for an absolute explosion in gold (and oil and interest rates.) as the retail sector runs into gold.

    These are very worrying times.
    Cheers,
    David.

p.s. get ready for Iran to be the scape goat for more than a decade of abusive Central Bank interest rate policy.

23 Mrd.

    A Perpetual 'War on Gold'?

The method by which the price of gold is held back is through unlimited short selling in the futures market by parties acting for the governments interested in keeping the price down or under control, and by feeding into the market such amounts of gold as may be required by the market for physical gold. These amounts are relatively much smaller than the futures market transactions, where speculators participate mainly with the interest of realizing dollar profits, and not by taking delivery of physical gold......

We have been reading for many years now, about the likelihood that the Central Banks have been providing this gold for physical delivery, and about the ever-diminishing amount of gold which the Central Banks have available for sale into the market. We are assured that the Central Banks will reach a point at which they will refuse to sell more gold, either because they will judge it imprudent to part with their remaining reserves, or because they simply have no more to sell.....more

There exists a method which the Central Banks might use and which would allow them to carry on this “War Against Gold” for much longer than we might expect, and this method is to take control of the most important gold producers in the world, by buying a majority stockholding in each of them. Compared with figures on spending which we see every day, and gigantic fiscal deficits, such purchases would require only a comparatively tiny amount of dollars or euros... :D

Only a great crisis would impel humanity into gold at all costs. The present crisis in the financial markets of the world is probably only a rehearsal for such a great crisis.

This present crisis will probably be papered over successfully and within a few months or years, at most, the normal abnormality of exclusively fiat money in the world will return and confidence will once again be restored.

However, the great crisis which will restore gold to its proper place in human dealings is inevitable, for the reasons which Ludwig Von Mises pointed out so many years ago: fiat money leads to malinvestment, and the longer that credit expansion and the increase of fiat money in circulation goes on, the greater the corresponding malinvestment. One day, in the future, there will be a huge collapse as the worldwide malinvestment is so great, that it will not be possible to satisfy pressing human needs.

That great crisis may be triggered at some point by a nuclear world war, or by some event of a financial nature which we cannot foresee. 8o

That the great crisis will come, is completely inevitable. It will surely come together with bloody revolutions in human affairs. :(

Through the ownership of loss-making producers, the “War on Gold” could go forward for many years yet. The “War on Gold” is not truly a war on a metallic substance; in the final analysis, it is a war on the psychological health of mankind; another generation subjected to the maddening psychological effects of endless credit and fiat money creation upon humanity will leave our civilization – what is left of it – completely destroyed.

I must add that I earnestly hope that I am quite mistaken with regard to the possibility of a Perpetual War on Gold.

Danach, free Riggit ! .....:D Rig it

    Ps...was meint Sidha dazu ?
