Gold Canyon Resources / GCU (TSXV)

Gold Canyon Rates High as an Early Stage Development Story

Gold Canyon Rates High as an Early Stage Development Story

When looking at current projects to compare GCU. GCU compares favorably to other early stage development stories including low grade names such as Volta, Trelawney, and even East Asia Minerals when it was still early. Gold Canyon has a chance to rival Osisko’s Malartic in the long run. Gold Canyon has announced some of the best, most continuous results along a 1km strike from surface to depth that rival some of the best early stage low grade development projects in the world and at initial glance looks like it could be a low cost producer from both open pit and underground scenario’s for a years to come. Add the fact that it is in our own backyard in Red Lake, Ontario. This is one of the best development projects to come along in awhile.

Springpole shows the best potential for significant multi-million ounce expansion along strike and at depth because of the continuity of the mineralization and the type of geology demonstrated. Springpole so far is remarkably contiguous and will compare very favorably to these projects as a bulk tonnage open pit mining operation and will easily end up being a +100Mt project containing +5M ounces of gold.

The big prize is that Gold Canyon may be on a 10M oz deposit at depth which would mean Gold Canyon shareholders are sitting on what may be one of the most coveted prizes in the Canadian gold sector since Osisko and Rainy River. Both companies did it on their own because the majors didn’t believe… Will Gold Canyon be another Canadian in-house success story or will the majors wake up and realize the potential of these massive low grade projects?

Either way, Gold Canyon is set to develop one of the biggest gold projects in Canada.

Gold Canyon is rated as a strong buy at $2.15 and I am confident they will continue to deliver on their theories and demonstrate that Portage is indeed a World Class Deposit that will rival some of the best producing mines anywhere in Canada one day.

TGR: Precious metals are the assets to which Pinetree has the most exposure. Could you tell us about some of Pinetree Capital's more promising gold and silver holdings?

MA: Sure. Here are a few names that Pinetree likes: First, Gold Canyon Resources Inc. (TSX.V:GCU), which is a Canadian-based unique mineral exploration company with a long history of exciting projects in both Canada and the United States. It completed a diamond drill program in the summer of 2010 at Springpole Gold Project, 110km northeast of Red Lake Mining Camp, Ontario, and a winter drill program is in progress. Springpole, which shares many similarities with deposits such as the Cripple Creek Gold deposit in Colorado, is an alkaline intrusion hosting a gold system that represents a potentially new style of Canadian Archean Shield gold deposit. At Springpole, the weighted average grades of the Portage Zone intercepts from the 18 holes drilled in 2010 is 1.36 grams per ton (g/t) gold and 5.95 g/t silver, a silver to gold ratio of 4.4:1.

Gold Canyon's Winter Drilling at Springpole Gold Project Produces Long Gold Intercepts and First Bonanza Grades From Portage Zone

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 16, 2011) - Gold Canyon Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:GCU)(PINK SHEETS:GDCRF) ("Gold Canyon" or "the Company") is pleased to announce the return of assays from the first 5 drill holes of its Winter 2011 Diamond Drill Program at its 100% controlled Springpole Gold Project, located 110 kilometers northeast of the Red Lake Mining Camp, Ontario, Canada. Highlights include hole SP11-033 that intersected the first bonanza grade gold mineralization yet encountered in the Portage Zone, including 3 meters at 53.88 grams per tonne gold (10 feet at 1.573 oz per ton gold) within 302 meters at 1.39 grams per tonne gold (991 feet at 0.041 oz per ton gold). Using an upper cut-off of 34.25 grams per tonne (1 oz per ton) for single assays, these intervals become 3 meters at 23.12 grams per tonne gold (10 feet at 0.675 oz per ton gold) and 302 meters at 1.08 grams per tonne gold (991 feet at 0.032 oz per ton gold).

"Holes SP11-033 and -34 come from an area near the middle of the Portage Zone where there is mostly historic drilling from nearly 20 years ago," comments Dr. Quinton Hennigh, Technical Advisor to Gold Canyon. "Though we are pleased that both holes produced long intervals of typical Portage style mineralization, the high grade in SP11-033 is something not previously seen in modern or historic drilling. We are hopeful further drilling in this area might produce more of this style of mineralization."

"We are also very pleased to see near surface mineralization in holes SP11-030 and -031 drilled in the gap between the Main and Portage zones," continues Hennigh. "We can now confidently say that gold mineralization is continuous for a distance of 1.35 kilometers from the Main Zone in the northwest to the present terminus of the Portage Zone in the southeast."

  • Moin moin,

Aktueller Kurs 2,40 Can Dollar, der untere Rand des Bollingerbandes liegt knapp über 2.
Nun ja sie hat ja auch einen fulminanten Anstieg hinter sich, der erst einmal konsolidiert
werden will.

    Highlights:

"We are very pleased to confirm high grades at shallow depth in the East Extension Zone," states Dr. Quinton Hennigh, Technical Advisor to and Director of Gold Canyon. "Although East Extension is a smaller target than the Portage Zone, it could potentially make a good starter pit. Holes SP11-066 and -067 demonstrate good continuity of high-grade mineralization along the southwest margin of this deposit. These results coupled with the corridor of near-surface mineralization that we discovered in drilling between the Portage Zone and East Extension last summer suggest we might ultimately be able to connect these two deposits."

    Operational Update

On August 1, a medium lift helicopter mounted drills on each of the two barges currently on-site at Springpole. Availability of a suitable helicopter to lift the drills onto the barges has been hampered by the need of such aircraft to help fight extensive forest fires that have erupted in NW Ontario since early July. Due to this and other fire related issues, the Company's summer drill program has experienced slower core production than planned. Dry and warm weather conditions persist and the Springpole base camp remains on high alert.

Two land-based drills have operated continuously at Springpole since late June. These rigs are currently drilling holes SP11-070 and -071, both tests of the Portage Zone drilled from the northeast shore of Springpole Lake. In addition, four metallurgical holes have recently been completed and will undergo an extensive series of metallurgical tests to be run over the next several months. With the barge drills operational, the Company plans to keep four drills operating through freeze-up, likely in early November. These rigs should produce around 9,000 meters of core, which is less than the 12,000 meters that was originally planned. Holes drilled this summer are expected to allow the Company to revise the 43-101 compliant resource estimate for the deposit sometime late in the second half of 2011.

-> Ende des Jahres wird es eine aktualisiert NI 43-101 Resource geben...

    10 MIO oz werden kolpotiert...

ich lege weiter nach, solange der kurs schwächelt

  • Gold Canyon Resources (gcu-v) has
pulled in more stellar drill results at its
Springpole gold project, situated 110 km
    northeast of northwestern Ontario’s
Red Lake gold camp. And this time they
come from a less-heralded part of the
    property.

    While Springpole has grabbed much
    attention for the intercepts encountered
in the Portage zone, the latest results
were highlighted by two holes that were
both drilled along the southwest margin
of what is known as the East Extension
    zone.

The better of the two returned 24 metres
grading 17.48 grams gold per tonne,
including 6 metres grading 52.60 grams
gold. The other hole returned 39 metres
grading 2.93 grams gold, including 1
    metre at 39.73 grams gold.
Both holes were collared at the same
spot, but drilled at different degrees and
    directions to test whether historical
    drilling was accurate.
Gold Canyon says the two holes not
only confirm the historic results but improved
upon the older holes by showing
    better continuity.

“Although East Extension is a smaller
target than the Portage zone, it could
potentially make a good starter pit,” said
    Quinton Hennigh, a technical advisor
    and director of Gold Canyon.
Also bullish for the company is that,
when combined with the corridor of
    near-surface mineralization discovered
in drilling between the Portage Zone and
East Extension last summer, the two deposits
    may ultimately be connected.
    The company also announced that
recent holes drilled at Portage have led
the company to believe that the zone
dips moderately to steeply northeast as
opposed to southwest, as previously believed.

On a less positive front, the company
said its drilling campaign had been hampered
by the forest fires that raged in
    mid-summer in northwestern Ontario,
    which greatly reduced available helicopters
needed to lift drills on and off barges.
Gold Canyon shares traded for $2.72 at
    presstime and have fluctuated between
38¢ and $4.22 over the last 52 weeks.
