Kommentar zum Expertengespräch von Nick Brown:
Michael Chou from Champion Auctions along with event sponsors, Majestic Rarities and NGC, arranged to have an educational session to discuss the Modern Chinese coins. This was attended by some of the largest collectors and dealers of Modern Chinese coins. In addition, there were educators and authors present to share their opinions of what they have seen in the past and what they feel will be the course going forward.
As we went around the room, each of the approximately 25 people attending announced who they were and gave a quick bio about themselves. This created a relaxed atmosphere as each of these very powerful collectors, dealers and researchers took a very comical aproach in describing themselves. There was lots of laughter as everyone joked.
One of the topics discussed was the strength of the current market and how each of us perceived the market in the future. Everyone was optomistic yet felt there could be a slight correction before prices started to "run" again. I mentioned I felt this is healthy and needed. Nothing shoots up forever and I believe so many of the great coins are still way underpriced. This is why I continue to purchase many coins and pay ahead of the curve without hesitation. If you read some of my previous blogs, I mention the opportunity to purchase great coins could be more rare than the coins themselves. Being given the opportunity to purchase these coins is an honor in itself.
One very well known and highly respected Chinese dealer suggested that if the prices held stable from March - July of 2011, there would be another surge in price levels. I also agree with this thought process. A great deal about the market strength will be known after Chinese New Year in February 2011.
