    GO GATA!

We saw much of the same trading pattern today that we have seen for some time. Gold rose $2 in overseas trading, then sold off going into the Comex period.

After Comex opened, it put in an early low of $499.60 … preferring not stay down below $500 very long.

The $490+ handle turned on the buyers and the price quickly headed north, leaping to $506 at one point, up nearly $4. However, the market settled down and was sold off late in the day by The Gold Cartel.

The AM FIX and PM FIX were both firm … coming in at the same price of $503.60. Once again we see evidence of very strong physical demand for gold.

The longer gold closes with a $500 handle, the more problem it will be for The Gold Cartel. The reason is the number will no longer look scary, or too high, to potential buyers of physical … futures too for that matter. Since $500 was such a key psychological level, it will be looked on as a support area. Because gold rose to $540, investors can now easily visualize the price of gold going much higher from these levels. Many will even expect it.

As we go into the Christmas and holiday celebration time, it is important to keep in mind that gold is making its move on its own because physical demand is gradually overpowering The Gold Cartel’s ability to secure enough central bank gold to suppress the price and meet that demand. They can win battles, but are clearly losing the war.

At the same time it is only a matter OF time before gold receives a tailwind at its back, which will add more fuel to the gold buying fire. Inflation concerns are likely to accelerate next year. The odds of the dollar tanking are high. And all is well at the moment with the US stock market. Incredibly, the US escaped convulsions over untenable and growing deficit problems this year … as far the financial markets are concerned. Yet, all that occurred was the delaying of some severe financial market stress. The odds of Iraq falling apart next year are high also. And so on and so on.

For years MIDAS posited that gold could rally $100 per ounce and the dollar do nothing. It happened this year … even more dramatically so. Gold has risen $80 to-date, while the dollar went from 81 to 90. Gold can rally many hundreds of dollars, even from here, without any outside financial market tailwinds. That, I am sure of. Yet when a number of these other factors kick in next year, the gold price will be the beneficiary and will add ROCKET FUEL to the rise.

The gold open interest only rose 1,642 contracts on a move up of $10. That is ASTOUNDING, and suggests that more and more shorts are running for the hills. They want OUT while they can get OUT. In the past the open interest might have gone up 15,000 to 20,000 contracts on a move up of this magnitude.

What is even better is the open interest only rose slightly with Goldman Sachs adding to their shorts for The Gold Cartel. There is room for the specs and physical market buyers to take gold up $100 from here without too much difficulty.

Silver ended the day quite well, rallying 16 cents at one point … after breaking a steep downtrend line formed following its recent market highs. While silver came off late with gold, it held part of its gains well and looks ready to challenge its multi-year highs very soon.

I continue to wonder why there is a concern about us not being careful about share issuance's, when I compare our track record to companies in Canada, Australia and England, I would think our shareholders would be comfortable.

However I have long wanted to build our shareholder base in Europe, and while I do not particularly like my emails posted on websites, maybe I should send a formal posting to goldseiten on this issue, what do you think ?

I am considering coming to Germany to Frankfurt in late January or February specifically to meet Sterling shareholders there, do you think February a good time ?

Gold and a Dead Cat Bounce

    Bob Moriarty
    Archives
    December 22, 2005

Gold bugs and nay-sayers alike have been through a roller-coaster ride over the past 10 days as gold tripped from $541 an ounce to $490 in the space of a little over a week and silver plummeted from $9.24 to $8.20. While I don't think gold or silver has hit the low for the correction, I do think they are in for a nice dead cat bounce and may well want to retest the previous highs.

Lest anyone confuse where I am coming from, it's obvious to me that we are in a long term bull market for all things real. Gold and silver being the most real. The Rulers of the United States intend to do as good a job of destroying our currency as they have done of destroying the Constitution. One day, not too far off, the rest of the world is going to figure out the dollar is nothing more than a trash currency and our Empire is going to disappear just as fast as the Russian Empire dissolved in 1979.

Someone emailed me today and pointed out that while gold and silver have taken a dump, by and large the gold stocks haven't reflected the drop in the metals. He is dead right and I remain mostly invested. Barb cashed out 25% of her total portfolio and got rid of the weak sisters before year end. And in fact her account hasn't gone down at all. (I've always wanted to be married to a rich broad}. As my grand-daddy used to say it's just as easy to love a rich girl as a poor girl, and a lot more fun.

In the days and months ahead, gold bugs will be rewarded many fold for their patience. But it's still wise to remember that when the cheerleaders are screaming the loudest, that's the time to sell. Still, for the next six weeks, I think fortune favors the bulls. When you toss a cat off a building, the faster it falls, the higher it bounces.

I'll continue to call them as I see them.

Rob McEwen Agrees to Invest a Total of C$10 Million in Minera Andes
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SPOKANE, WA - December 21, 2005 - Minera Andes (TSX-V: MAI and US OTC: MNEAF) is pleased to announce that Rob McEwen has today subscribed C$5,395,159 for an aggregate of 15,414,740 units issued by way of private placement. Excluding warrants, completion of this subscription makes Mr. McEwen our largest shareholder with a 14.2% interest.

Terms for a second private placement have also been agreed to with Mr. McEwen that would make his total investment C$10 million. The second private placement of 13,156,689 units will only close 61 days after receipt of approval from the shareholders of the Corporation for the placement and for the waiver or repeal of Minera Andes' shareholder rights plan as it applies to Mr. McEwen. Excluding warrants, completion of the second placement would give Mr. McEwen a 23.5% shareholding in Minera Andes.

Proceeds from these two private placements will be used for further development and exploration of the advanced-stage, high-grade San José gold/silver project in southern Argentina. A positive bankable feasibility study for the project was released October 24, 2005 and permitting, advanced engineering and other work is currently underway. At San José, a work force of 330 is developing the underground workings exploring the main gold/silver vein. Proceeds will also be used for general corporate purposes and for exploration at the Los Azules copper discovery in west central Argentina, in accordance with Minera Andes' recently announced letter of intent with Xstrata Copper Americas.

Allen Ambrose, president of Minera Andes, said, "Minera Andes is an entrepreneurial mining company and we are pleased that a proven industry leader in the gold sector recognizes the value inherent in our company. The value in Minera Andes lies in the development of the advanced stage gold/silver project at San José, currently scheduled for production in the first quarter of 2007, and its significant exploration upside. In addition, we have a large portfolio of wholly owned exploration properties in Argentina, including the Los Azules copper property scheduled for drilling this field season."

Rob McEwen is Chairman and CEO of U.S. Gold Corporation (USGL: OTC BB) and was the founder, former Chairman and CEO of Goldcorp Inc. Over the past eighteen years Mr. McEwen turned Goldcorp Inc. from an investment company with a market capitalization of $50 million into a mining company with a market value over $7.0 billion today. He has been honored with such awards as the Northern Miner's Man of the Year Award; Ernst & Young's Ontario Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Energy Category; and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada's Developer of the Year award. Under his leadership Goldcorp was named one of Fast Company magazine's 50 Companies of Innovation, and Business Week magazine's selection as one of the 50 most innovative companies on the web.

The first placement with Mr. McEwen consists of 15,414,740 units for gross proceeds of C$5.39 million. Each unit, priced at C$0.35, consists of one common share and one-half of one common share purchase warrant of Minera Andes. One whole common share purchase warrant entitles the holder to purchase one additional common share at an exercise price of C$0.55 per share at any time prior to the earlier of: a) the date which is the 15th trading day after receiving notice from Minera Andes that the weighted average price of the common shares on the TSX Venture Exchange has been equal to or greater than C$1.00 for a period of 20 consecutive trading days commencing 120 days after the date of issuance of the warrants, and b) December 20, 2007. Securities issued in this first private placement are subject to a four-month hold period, expiring April 21, 2006. The second private placement is for 13,156,689 units and has the same pricing and terms as the private placement just closed. The second private placement is subject to receiving all necessary regulatory and shareholder approvals and to the waiver or repeal of Minera Andes' shareholder rights plan as it applies to Mr. McEwen. Securities issued in the second private placement will also be subject to a four-month hold period from the date of issue.

Canaccord Capital Corporation will act as agent on both private placements. Canaccord will receive a 5 percent cash commission and up to 700,000 Agent warrants equal to 2.45 percent of the aggregate number of units sold pursuant to both placements. Each Agent warrant will entitle the Agent to acquire one common share on the same terms as the private placement warrants. A total of 377,661 Agent warrants have been issued in connection with the closed private placement. The closed private placement and the second private placement together total C$10 million.

The closed private placement is for C$ 5,395,159 totaling 15,414,740 shares and 7,707,370 warrants making Mr. McEwen a 19.9 percent shareholder in the Corporation on a diluted basis (14.2% on a non-diluted basis). The pending second private placement, for C$4,604,841 totaling 13,156,689 shares and 6,578,344 warrants, would take Mr. McEwen to 31.5 percent ownership on a diluted basis (23.5% on a non-diluted basis).

Under terms of the arrangement Mr. McEwen will have the right to nominate a director and a right to fund the Corporation in future financings for two years. If a majority of the shareholders don't approve the second private placement and waive or repeal the shareholder rights plan as it applies to Mr. McEwen through written approval or by a vote at a special meeting of the shareholders of the Corporation, then a break fee of C$2.0 million will be paid to Mr. McEwen.

In addition, Minera Andes has also completed a non-brokered private placement financing for C$701,639.75 through the issuance of 2,004,685 units at C$0.35 per unit. Each unit consists of one common share and one-half common share purchase warrant. Each whole warrant entitles the holder to purchase one additional common share at an exercise price of C$0.55 for a period of 24 months. Finder's fees of 6 percent, payable by issuance of 120,281 common shares was paid to Haywood Securities in connection with this financing. The common shares and warrants comprising the units, the warrant shares issueable on exercise of warrants and common shares issued to Haywood Securities will have a four month hold period expiring on April 7, 2006. Proceeds from the financing will be used to advance our projects in Argentina.

Minera Andes is a gold, silver and copper exploration company working in Argentina. Minera Andes holds about 500,000 acres of mineral exploration land in Argentina, including the co-owned San José silver/gold project now under construction and feasibility consideration for possible mine production. Minera Andes has also discovered an enriched copper zone at its Los Azules property and is acquiring other exploration targets in southern Argentina. Including this closed private placement, the Corporation now has 108,484,137 issued and outstanding shares.

Top stories: Tragedy looms on SA roads

    2005-12-20

A severe shortage of qualified parademics on stand-by this season means injured motorists are often left in the hands of unqualified staff. Eduan Roos Johannesburg

Motorists who are seriously injured in road accidents during the holiday period may wait hours for medical assistance or be left at the mercy of untrained first-aid staff, while a severe shortage of trained paramedics in most provinces in the country threatens disaster.
Only 1 000 paramedics trained to offer advanced life-support are on stand-by to reach accident scenes on South African roads this year - and much of their equipment leaves a lot to be desired.

Anina Steel of the Healthcare Professionals Council (HPC) said South African patients faced a looming crisis, after it was revealed that some provinces have to manage virtually without any trained paramedics.

"Though we definitely have a severe shortage of staff trained to give life-saving treatment at accident scenes, there are more than 20 000 registered staff members with less than six months' training," Steel said. "These people may not by law do the work of a paramedic, but it might happen since there are not enough of them (paramedics)."

Steel said these so-called basic ambulance assistants (BAAs) underwent short courses in emergency assistance, but very few of them were trained further to become full paramedics.

"These guys are only equipped to drive ambulances and give primary first-aid. But there may be problems if a motorist's life is in danger, because there are far too few paramedics on stand-by," she said. "The HPC is looking at ways to increase the training (of BAAs) to become paramedics."

HPC emergency services deputy president Kgati Malebana said poor working conditions and salaries contributed to the problem.

"A large number of trained people leave the country in search of greener pastures, but the situation is much better now than a few years ago," he said. "We are definitely not where we should be and the increase in holiday traffic and more accidents obviously make things more difficult. But if we plan smarter we could ensure that our best-trained people do reach scenes where people urgently need treatment."

It was reported this weekend that several patients in KwaZulu-Natal died when emergency staff could not react immediately.

One patient apparently died when an emergency worker used faulty oxygen equipment.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Paul Nel said it was often a case of which patients were most badly injured when paramedics were called to a scene.

"There are too few people to reach everyone and though we try by using efficient communication to help one another out across provincial borders, this remains a reality," Nel said.

"The community also has a great responsibility to ensure that emergency staff get accurate information as far as possible, since it could cost someone else's life if it's not absolutely necessary to send out a paramedic."
