  • GO GATA!

We saw much of the same trading pattern today that we have seen for some time. Gold rose $2 in overseas trading, then sold off going into the Comex period.

After Comex opened, it put in an early low of $499.60 … preferring not stay down below $500 very long.

The $490+ handle turned on the buyers and the price quickly headed north, leaping to $506 at one point, up nearly $4. However, the market settled down and was sold off late in the day by The Gold Cartel.

The AM FIX and PM FIX were both firm … coming in at the same price of $503.60. Once again we see evidence of very strong physical demand for gold.

The longer gold closes with a $500 handle, the more problem it will be for The Gold Cartel. The reason is the number will no longer look scary, or too high, to potential buyers of physical … futures too for that matter. Since $500 was such a key psychological level, it will be looked on as a support area. Because gold rose to $540, investors can now easily visualize the price of gold going much higher from these levels. Many will even expect it.

As we go into the Christmas and holiday celebration time, it is important to keep in mind that gold is making its move on its own because physical demand is gradually overpowering The Gold Cartel’s ability to secure enough central bank gold to suppress the price and meet that demand. They can win battles, but are clearly losing the war.

At the same time it is only a matter OF time before gold receives a tailwind at its back, which will add more fuel to the gold buying fire. Inflation concerns are likely to accelerate next year. The odds of the dollar tanking are high. And all is well at the moment with the US stock market. Incredibly, the US escaped convulsions over untenable and growing deficit problems this year … as far the financial markets are concerned. Yet, all that occurred was the delaying of some severe financial market stress. The odds of Iraq falling apart next year are high also. And so on and so on.

For years MIDAS posited that gold could rally $100 per ounce and the dollar do nothing. It happened this year … even more dramatically so. Gold has risen $80 to-date, while the dollar went from 81 to 90. Gold can rally many hundreds of dollars, even from here, without any outside financial market tailwinds. That, I am sure of. Yet when a number of these other factors kick in next year, the gold price will be the beneficiary and will add ROCKET FUEL to the rise.

The gold open interest only rose 1,642 contracts on a move up of $10. That is ASTOUNDING, and suggests that more and more shorts are running for the hills. They want OUT while they can get OUT. In the past the open interest might have gone up 15,000 to 20,000 contracts on a move up of this magnitude.

What is even better is the open interest only rose slightly with Goldman Sachs adding to their shorts for The Gold Cartel. There is room for the specs and physical market buyers to take gold up $100 from here without too much difficulty.

Silver ended the day quite well, rallying 16 cents at one point … after breaking a steep downtrend line formed following its recent market highs. While silver came off late with gold, it held part of its gains well and looks ready to challenge its multi-year highs very soon.

    Man nehme:

Pot of Gold Continues to Beckon

    Ray Turchansky
    CanWest News Service
National Post / Financial Post, Toronto
    Saturday, December 24, 2005

Six weeks ago Eric Sprott, a leading hedge fund manager and a known contrarian, had a mischievous smile on his face as he talked about gold, which had risen nearly US$50 an ounce in
six months, to US$460. "If we have a shortage in gold, the
price will go crazy," said the chief executive of
Toronto-based Sprott Asset Management. "I think gold's day
is coming. Another big run is coming."

On Dec. 12 gold hit a 25-year high of US$540.90 an ounce, an
18 percent climb since Mr. Sprott spoke. Then the price descended to US$505.70, before it stabilized on Dec. 15.
Gold has been hovering around the $500 mark for the last few weeks.

James Turk, the founder of the GoldMoney.com, based in the British Channel Island of Jersey, said on Canadian television this week that gold will hit US$600 in the first quarter of 2006, and US$900 before the year is out. Bill Murphy, who
heads the Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee, predicts gold will reach US$1,000 an ounce by the end of 2006.
    8o

Mr. Murphy's group contends the central banks and
politicians are part of a "gold cartel" that has artificially suppressed the price of gold by leaking some of the gold
held by central banks on to the market. Now, they are
running out of gold, he says.

Mr. Turk says the price increase is due to U.S. inflation, unsustainable record trade deficits, and growing federal
budget deficits that will have to be financed with newly
    created dollars, cheapening that currency.

"Gold is money, and people are becoming more cognizant
of the importance of the safety and security afforded by
gold as the only money that is no one's liability," Mr.
Turk wrote in a newsletter this week. Gold's high of
US$875 an ounce in 1981, he said, would be the equivalent
    of US$2,200 today.

As gold companies try to swallow each other up -- Barrick
Gold Corp. and Placer Dome Inc. on Thursday announced
their merger -- Mr. Sprott said it would take a commodity
price of US$500 an ounce to make most gold companies profitable. "Nobody's earnings in the gold industry justify
the stock prices today, and they never will because most
of us who invest in gold are looking at it prospectively.
To justify the prices, you've got to go to [US]$550 or
    [US]$600."

Many people invest in shares of the bullion on the New York Stock Exchange -- 400-ounce London Good Delivery Bars held
in the vaults of HSBC Bank USA. But while share prices of
gold mining firms depend on earnings, gold bullion trades
like a currency. And the U.S. dollar has fallen 27.5 percent against the loonie in three years.

    -END-

    Have a great 2006

So meine Prognose.
